Teena had been miserable ever since she whistled. Shortly afterwards, Montero, her glamorous confidante, ceased to acknowledge her. The older woman passed by placidly in the corridors, her former care and attention haunting Teena like a living ghost. All she had done was give Teena a cilice, a barbed metal chain she was to tie around her thigh for two hours every day, and a discipline, a rope whip with knotted ends she was to use on her back when she prayed the Hail Mary.
Mortifications are part of Opus Deis daily spiritual plan, and they arent limited to the flesh. Asceticism is a way to imitate Christs life, to take up the cross with him. Teena was encouraged to offer up her suffering, however small or temporary, to God: sitting in an uncomfortable position, denying herself food she liked.
The girl had stopped eating. She buckled her uniforms belt one notch tighter each month, until there were none left. She longed for the fields in Ballyroan. But when she wrote letters to her family she didnt know what she could say. The numeraries read everything she sent or received to protect her, they said, from immoral thoughts.

(9,917 posts)3. Clarence Thomas, Amy Coney-Barrett, and I know previously Antonin Scalia was ... all Opus Dei.
I'm not positive about Samuel Alito, but if he's not, he sure acts like it.
Oh! And, on edit: Leonard Leo, the purchaser of the supreme court, is also Opus Dei.
