That's the bottom line here, and yet there are still people parsing his words as though word-parsing is the proper response.
God help us all (and I include the MAGAts, because we won't just lie down and die like they think we will.)
A long time back here on DU somebody had reassured me that "the justice system will hold.". Will it? With each passing day I am less sure.

(3,434 posts)Our greatest balance and protection used to be SCOTUS. Clearly that has been manipulated to uphold and protect VASTLY minority views. I dont know what other protections there are, given that governing clearly now comes from the ol balls and strikes bench.

(103,068 posts)How damned predictable was it that the campaign "clean-up" crew has already been out claiming he meant an "economic" blood bath.
How many similar deplorable statements have they similarly "cleaned up" in a truly nonsensical manner in the past years and especially recently? How many will the gullible among us absorb?

(170 posts)I'm sick and tired of people with money buying the kind of justice that is unavailable to everyone else. The police and the "justice system" is little more than a private protection force for the wealthy.

And most are in their respective silos.

(19,356 posts)Because Trump's supporters will eventually go full Nazi on their enemies if given half a chance. And they'll welcome non-violent protests against their regime as an opportunity to kill liberals, because they view us as less than human.
I'm not saying we need to buy arsenals. I am saying you should at least know how to use firearms, and probably own one of you're comfortable with doing so.

(8,043 posts)Would exterminating MAGA be considered self-defense? An ounce of prevention being worth a pound of cure, and all that?
I am not advocating this at all. I am exploring the logical(sic) ramifications of weaponizing political discourse.
I know how I feel when some rich entitled jerk wants to build 30 new upper price range homes up stream and right across the drainage which feeds my well. 30 large homes feeding their septic wastes into the upstream land above my well. I start thinking in terms of what a carefully aimed 105 howitzer shell might accomplish. The only real question I have is whom to target and when? The developer, or his survey crew, or the machines as they arrive, or the houses, or the county commissioners who set up this atrocity?
I respect that we are a nation of laws. I strongly believe in due process and fair adjudication. How I feel about the situation I describe above is that someone is out to poison me and mine, while the legal system only applies effect AFTER those houses and septic systems are built.
Imagine I was a MAGA willing to ignore the law because I don't agree with it. How would that end?
How long do you think MAGA leaders would last If we chose their methods to accomplish our agendas. Would they make it across the parking lot?
While I know this is certainly NOT the pathway to a working government, or to resolve political issues, I do not see or hear the MAGA crowd having the same reserve, or the will to settle differences without applying rage to solve them.

It will be kill first, let their deity sort them out. Jews who voted for Hitler went to the camps just like the ones who voted otherwise. You do know that, right?

(1,718 posts)Copied from someone many months ago. The Judiciary branch is strong and will hold.
A few weeks ago, a dear old friend, a Republican-appointed federal judge, trying to console me during a moment of despair about the future of our country, said to me The Judiciary branch is strong and will hold. When I expressed skepticism, he leaned toward me, looked me dead in the eye, and said as firmly as he could without shouting: We are strong and WE. WILL. HOLD.
Today, thanks to Judge Mehta, I think he may be right ...
Me now, if it does not hold, democracy is dead in USA.

(1,291 posts)we often saw the regime's plans frustrated by the Constitution or the courts. The Republicans have been working on a new Constitutional Convention for decades and obviously they have been trying harder and harder to tilt courts at all levels their way. Another Trump term and a couple of states even temporarily taken by Republicans and all bets could be off.
As to the strength of the judicial system, it can be judged by those at the top, who have likely lived lives of social and economic privilege and much of whose self-image is vested in the system; or it can be judged by those at bottom of society when 95% of those incarcerated never received a trial.

(1,103 posts)Enough of this bullshit, put them under Guantanamo like the Islamist terrorists. If you or I did this, we wouldn't see the light of day anymore. Stop being weak, revoke his bond, and say anyone who supports him should be considered a terrorist. It's because we have a weak system that favors the rich that results in where we are now.
TexasDem69
(2,105 posts)And you want to imprison the 60 million Americans who support Trump? On what grounds?
tornado34jh
(1,103 posts)He has made clear wants to be a dictator on day one. We know his cult will follow anything he says. How likely do you think his cult members could end up murdering people? There is something called the felony murder rule, whereby if someone is killed, the offender and whoever his/her accomplices are may be found guilty of murder. But Trump would be considered the mastermind. If I did the same thing as what Trump was saying, do you think I would get that much leeway? Heck, Islamist terrorists don't get that much leeway. How many times have we seen his followers go out and attack anything that doesn't fit their ideology? The reality is, you are not going to reason with them no matter how many times you try and present the facts. But if we and the justice system don't take that threat seriously, it will be filled with Trump loyalists, and then who will be out there to defend us? They could just indict someone on trumped-up charges for no reason.
TexasDem69
(2,105 posts)At least not that Im aware of. The First Amendment protects all sorts of speech. We dont put people in jail because we dislike their views, even if their views are demonstrably horrible, like Trumps are.
And how in the world can the felony murder rule have any relevance here. We dont live in the pre-crimes world (a reference to Minority Report).
Trumps comments might be deplorable but they arent criminal.
tornado34jh
(1,103 posts)Regardless of if it is criminal or not, we have to start taking it seriously. Voting alone is not going to be enough, especially if you have people who believe the last election was stolen. That didn't stop a potential insurrection from occurring. I read somewhere a lot of the FBI and DOJ are Trump sympathizers. If we don't remove them, your democracy is gone. You may be right in terms of the First Amendment, but that doesn't mean we should just it let it go. Dictators know that if they can find weaknesses, such as the judiciary, voting, etc., it will be easy for them to get power and it will be very difficult to remove.

(2,332 posts)His words have resulted in political violence, and even death. Al Qaeda got labeled a terrorist group not for their threats but for following through on them.
So why label one group that makes threats of violence then follows through on them a terrorist group, but not the other?
TexasDem69
