And it ain't pretty.
He's broke and can't come up with the cash to back a bond for his appeal in NY. So, he's begging the appeals court to have pity on him and let him skate on putting up bond for an appeal he will almost certainly lose.
His billionaire costume has been snatched off his body, exposing his financial shortfalls, along with other shortcomings he wishes were not seen.
I guess he's really not all that, after all.

Waaaaay back when, a time of great foolishness on my part. i took crucial final exam in English Lit. The question was:
Describe the use of poetic compression as used by Gerald Manley Hopkins.
I wrote a beautiful and brilliant essay on "The second coming".
"Turning and turning in the ever widening gyre
the falcon cannot hear the falconer....."
unfortunately,
Gerald Manley Hopkins wrote "The Windhover"
"I saw this morning, morning's
Kingdom of dapple dawn drawn falcon
riding level underneath him steady air."
Shoulda been a slam dunk but instead it was Hello Vietnam.

(5,107 posts)I suspect when you get into the details of the discussions between Team Donnie and would be bond issuers, you would find Donnie so limited the terms he would take or collateral he would offer that is why the issuers said no. If Donnie, put his whole empire up as collateral it would be more than ample. He simply wants to so limit the discussion just so he can tell a judge I went out to dozens of firms and no one will back me for this amount, so you HAVE to lower the amount judge!

(60,320 posts)Newsweek:
Trump, who was recently hit with a massive $454 million penalty in the New York civil fraud case, could benefit massively from the proposed deal. Once it closes, his stake in his social media company, Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG), could be worth as much as $3 billion. TMTG is the parent company of Trump's Truth Social, the platform he started after being banned from sites like Twitter and Facebook in the wake of the January 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol.
Because Trump would own 79 million shares in the postmerger company, the deal could give him a "financial lifeline," according to The New York Times. The stock closed on Wednesday at $40.19 per share. At that price, Trump's overwhelmingly majority stake would be worth over $3.1 billion.
Regulations would forbid him selling shares for 90 days after the deal goes into effect, but he could borrow against it as collateral. If he sold about 15% of that to pay the penalty or pay a loan for the penalty, he'd depress the stock price. The more he sells, the more it drops.

If I'm a judge looking at this I'd require Trump attorney's to list what bond companies were approached then have a clerk call and ask about the conversations, how hard Trump tried, what the sticking points are. Would they take properties as collateral or not?
If he owns properties as he claims, then he's not broke just cash poor and that's no excuse to claim he can't make payments or bonds.
Are they trying to let NY seize his assets so they can start suing and draw this whole thing out further and further?

(15,533 posts)Bear with me:
The world bore the horror of Trump's utter incompetence when he was President.
Trump's supporters became stochastic terrorists, and of course we saw this most plainly January 6.
Then the Carroll judgement, and the $90 million.
Then the $400 million bond he now cannot come up with.
Drip. Drip. Drip.
Now we have the dictator-for-a-day thing, the Putin can 'do anything he wants' thing, and the 'it will be a bloodbath' if he loses thing.
So now, just in time for the campaign, we see that Trump has installed Lara Trump as the chair of RNC, and she got rid of all their talent that had real institutional knowledge, and will funnel all the money to Trump's legal fees. The Republican grassroots organization has been imploding across many states.
This will starve down ticket Republican candidates. Add to this Trump's boast that he was instrumental in ending Roe v Wade, and we see two huge millstones around the collective GOP neck - lack of campaign funds, and abortion access.
In the meantime, we have ABC, conservative leaning ABC, pounding on the bloodbath deal. Biden running ads using Trump's own words against him. Much better messaging.
We also have increasing evidence that Trump may well be experiencing what is called 'fluid aphasia.' I suspect Trump will have some kind of breakdown that forces the GOP to elevate some other candidate, and they have very little real bench strength at this point.
Drip. Drip. Drip.
People are waking up, Mineral Man. Right leaning independents who have in the past thoughtlessly voted Republican are rethinking their position. They are waking up.
Establishment Republicans like Ken Buck (my Rep by the way) have been fleeing the shit show the GOP Congress has become. Liz Chaney has come out against Trump. Pence has publicly said he does not endorse Trump. They are waking up.
Women have awakened. LGBTQ people have awakened. Aside from a few vocal critics from the student-left and Dearborn, MI criticizing Biden's stance on the Israel-Hamas war (unjustly, to my mind, because Biden/Harris/Blinken are in fact pressuring Netanyahu, which is causing him to be further isolated, and increasingly likely to be thrown out of power).
And we have Biden actually walking a picket line. And did you see John Oliver's student debt episode? He sure gives Biden credit for forgiveness of billions in student debt.
The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) has infused billions into states, and Biden is calling out GOP members of Congress who voted against it - BIL is bringing $6 billion into my state alone, in much needed funding to address infrastructure needs.
Bottom line, we do still need to get out the vote and do that work, but we as a party in are in better, stronger position than we have been in a long, long time.
I am optimistic, becuase I think Dems will sweep in 2024. Yes, GOTV is still hugely important, and everyone on here needs to do that, but...I'm optimistic.
4lbs
(7,395 posts)Dude claimed he was worth more than a billion dollars, making him a "billionaire".
He claimed his Mar-a-Lago (MAGA Lardo?) estate was north of a billion dollars alone. He did this to get favorable loan rates in NYC.
However, for tax purposes, he claimed only a few dozen million. He couldn't BS the IRS. He had to tell them the truth, no matter how much it hurt.
After all, the IRS is the one that helped put Al Capone in prison, not other parts of the government.
Claiming and grossly overvaluing property is the cornerstone of his NYC fraud case. Trying to cover up his real net worth is another court case against him.
So, he can no longer claim he is worth several billion, when all evidence and audits are to the contrary.
This latest stunt is a huge illustration of his huge net worth loss. Or actually, no real net worth anyhow. Trying to secure that nearly $500 million bond and having trouble convincing financiers to put up that much cash is a prime example of this fact. If he truly was a billionaire, he could simply put up the money himself. But no, again, he has to try to sucker... err... "get someone else" to pony up the cash. He hates to part with money.
Remember several years ago, trying to get him to pay up you needed a Texas-sized crowbar to pry his wallet open.
That's a lot of ketchup! No amount of KFC buckets, "hamberders", or gross-looking taco bowls, will assuage that skid mark.
In the 1990s and early 2000s, he used this tactic to great benefit, using inflated values to get favorable loans, buying up properties in NY and NJ to puff himself as a great and wise person, a real estate mogul, to people. Then, when it came time to actually "pay the piper", he declared bankruptcy, and left others holding the bag.
His many bankruptcies were shown for all to see, but that and not paying taxes, he said it simply made him smart.
Uhh... no. Stupid. Not smart.
Now, there are people saying they won't vote for him again, thanks, ok, but, my question to them is...
"WTF took you so long?"
Everything you are saying as a reason why now this time, he said pretty much the same crap in 2016 and 2020. But NOW it is too much? Mmmm-kay.
Gonna really put your money where your mouth is and vote for Biden in 2024, or are you gonna "pussy out" and vote for some other person?
