Calling a spade a spade gets even easier with old age.
Setting the scene
.Im looking at this empty bowl of oatmeal and a half-full glass of orange juice. The juice reminded me of Trump which reminded me of his recent salute honoring the January 6th insurrectionists which reminded me of his American flag lapel pin which reminded me of him grabbing and kissing the American prop flag which reminded me of his 5 Vietnam War deferments which reminded me of his saying he doesnt like people who were captured which reminded me of John McCain which reminded me of my late sweetheart who died because of Agent Orange.
Donald Trump is a hideous man.

(8,814 posts)I suspect that those in the military that support trump are those who are xenophobic and racist. I doubt that they think he any honor or character unless they are deluded by their own bigotries. Then their are the sociopaths in the MIC who only care about their bottom line and see ANY GOP as best for their coffers.

The most sadistic, unholy, unconstitutional behavior is "justified" by the words (lies) that the leader spews.
Opera fans: From Verdi's Othello
Therefore, loyalty includes bashing the military, love of God includes vilifying, maiming and killing others outside the cult, freedom means repression, and so on.
Sickest of all, it appears that the LACK of lightning strikes, fire and brimstone, and casting into hell are taken as divine APPROVAL. "Hey, God didn't strike me down. Must be OK"

(72,178 posts)I would wear a lapel pin that was a miniature version of my Form DD-214. The DD-214 is a certificate the Army gives you when you separate from service that shows every medal, badge, and commendation you were awarded while in the service. Mine includes my Expert qualification on the M-16 rifle, and all of my Gulf War medals. If my opponent in the election asked why I wasn't wearing an American flag pin, I would show him my Form DD-214, and ask to see his.

(77,315 posts)Funny all those MAGA supporters consider themselves to be patriots, wave their American
flags, show off all kinds bald eagles (screaming), and Christo Fascist paraphernalia even though
Trump and his followers are light years from being patriots or following the teachings of J. Christ.

Not your votes in Congress.
Not your public statements or actions.
But, it's gotta be that pin.
I remember years ago, they flamed a Democratic Congressperson for not wearing one (he forgot his). However, the same guy voted YES for every military appropriations bill. I think he even supported the 9/11 commission, DHS funding, etc. However, forget that pin on your jacket one time, for 30 minutes, and suddenly, he must have hated the military.
Meanwhile, these twerps vote NO on everything and funding the military, but hey, gotta wear that flag pin. Because, you know, that is what matters. That is how you support the troops. Not funding their activities or medical care afterwards. That requires actual balls and a spine, which they don't have. All those deferments too. Bone spurs galore on written documents from paid off "doctors".
Let us say there is a reason that CCR's song "Fortunate Son" exists.

(42,281 posts)According to his 2015 memoir, Fogerty was thinking about David Eisenhower, the grandson of President Dwight D. Eisenhower, who married Julie Nixon after he escorted her at the International Debutante Ball, the daughter of then-President-elect Richard Nixon in 1968, when he wrote "Fortunate Son".
David Eisenhower eventually enlisted in the Navy because I served along side of him on the USS Albany CG10. True story
