Supreme Court allows Texas to enforce abbotts immigration law

Will this be the straw that breaks the rethugs back ?
Texas has more hispanic folks than any other nationality, will Tx go blue now ?
Will AG paxton file suit on law enforcement that refuse to enforce this law ?
Will abbott put a bounty on immigrants ?
Will companies who employ immigrant folks be raided ?
Will homeowners stop using folks for cheap labor , lawn care, house cleaning, painting etc.. ?

To no surprise. Funny how states can't decide to keep an insurrectionist rapist off the ballot, but when it comes to states like Texas overriding FEDERAL immigration law, as well as ignoring a previous SCOTUS edict, well, that's DIFFERENT.

Hypocritical bastards.

Supreme Court allows Texas to enforce immigration law The Biden administration sued to block the law, saying it tramples on the federal government’s exclusive authority to oversee immigration issues.

It creates a really strong foil for republicans who think they can beat Biden on this issue. Not only did they kill the bill that would find a solution for it, the Supreme Court has seemingly taken responsibility for it entirely from the federal government.

The responsibility for the immigration issue centering on the Texas/Mexican border now belongs to Texas. Their government can now be blamed for any further outcry concerning the issue there. In a weird way this might be a huge win for Biden (although a pretty huge loss for basic morality and human dignity in general).

I think this will effect a lot of the most independent and undecided voters outside of Texas who will see that Biden isn’t going be able to be generally blamed for whatever border crisis exists in November.

But also it could be the straw that breaks the camels back in turning Texas blue. I say this because if it is trending blue, the immigration issue could be the one thing keeping it red. Now that it is effectively outside of the federal governments hands, republicans there can no longer credibly blame the immigration crisis that immediately effects Texas

ICE will still be there handing many cases.

It just gives them permission to arrest and whatever. But Abbott won't turn the entire border operation over to the NG or police. All it's gonna do is ramp up Abbott's razor wire operation and enhance his "trespassing arrests".

I read somewhere if they need to be deported, they will be turned over to the feds.

Arresting and deporting all of them would seriously damage economic growth because they work in the construction trades as well as road maintenance and landscaping services. I suspect a large majority of the house cleaners are also undocumented.

How does this decision not violate the federal government’s control of the borders?

make some major changes to the Supreme Court.

-Term Limits 30 Years or 70 years old, whichever comes first. Effective immediately.

-Increase the number of Supreme Court Justices to the number of Federal Appeal courts. There are currently 13 Federal Appeal courts.

-Only 9 Justices may hear a case and the Justices are on a rotating schedule.

-Create a requirement that no spouse, partner, child, family member of a Supreme Court Justice may bring a case to the Supreme Court or be involve in any entity that brings a case to the Supreme Court.

-If any Justice is suspected of being influenced by outside factors while deciding a case, a vote must be taken by all the Justices as whether or not the suspected Justice stays on the case.

These simple rules would drastically improve the perceptions of our now corrupt Supreme Court.

Now whether that will ever happen is another story.
Another alternative is to not appoint until a Justice reaches 65 years old.

I think the Constitution’s writers assumed that judges would have ethics and morals and thus good behavior was enough. We’ve seen everything but good behavior from the MAGAs on this Court. Any such law would also need to lay out the punishment for violation of the rules. It’s not as good as an amendment to remove the lifetime appointment but it could at least put some teeth into ethics rules.

Texas has not been a white majority state for many years, and this law rusks alienating the Hispanic voters they gave been trying to woo. Hispanics who are citizens are already targeted by law enforcement in many areas. This law is an open invitation for the violation of even more people’s rights as they will need to carry papers to prove they are citizens. White people rarely, if ever, have to prove citizenship unless they are applying for an official document like a passport. But in Texas now just walking on a street, having brown skin, and speaking Spanish may be cause for arrest.

Chinese Exclusion Act (1882)

The Chinese Exclusion Act was approved on May 6, 1882. It was the first significant law restricting immigration into the United States.

In the spring of 1882, the Chinese Exclusion Act was passed by Congress and signed by President Chester A. Arthur. This act provided an absolute 10-year ban on Chinese laborers immigrating to the United States. For the first time, federal law proscribed entry of an ethnic working group on the premise that it endangered the good order of certain localities.

The Chinese Exclusion Act required the few non-laborers who sought entry to the United States (such as diplomatic officers) to obtain certification from the Chinese government that they were qualified to immigrate. But this group found it increasingly difficult to prove their status because the 1882 act defined laborers as "skilled and unskilled...and Chinese employed in mining." Thus very few Chinese could enter the country under the 1882 law.

The 1882 exclusion act also placed new requirements on Chinese who had already entered the country. If they left the United States, they had to obtain certifications to re-enter. Congress, moreover, refused state and federal courts the right to grant citizenship to Chinese resident aliens, although these courts could still deport them.
