36 billion is approximately 25% of the Texas budget for this year.
Other than as a selective performance act, the state of Texas will not enforce their law. They will instead continue to bus 'em to own the libs.

Will look up your non-profit and investigate for corruption and gang ties.
League of United Latin American Citizens LULAC has several goals in mind relating to Mexican American civil rights that included desegregation in schools and the unfair conditions in migrant camps.

(29,689 posts)I unfriended someone on FB because he always tags me in these horrific anti-Trump posts. (They all contain the F word) It's too much and I have a few GOP friends. I'm also friends with Democratic local officials. I don't wanna look like a crazy loon or make us look like crazy loons. My sister is a professor in Qatar and I think she avoids my posts because of some of the stuff he's done.

(14,626 posts)I'm not trying to minimize the impact of this shitty fascist law, far from it, I'm just pointing out how the law, despite causing vast harm, cannot be effective as it would bankrupt the state if fully implemented.

(14,626 posts)20 years! for a repeat offense.
Texas can place you next to the border, they cannot put you across it (yet.) The law does allow judges to drop the charges if the victim agrees to return to Mexico.

(33,392 posts)That is why law enforcement is given discretion on who they arrest. And prosecutors are given discretion on what charges they bring and they are given the ability to drop charges, modify them or plea bargain them. No state has the resources to enforce all laws completely.
Voltaire2
(14,626 posts)if they tried to enforce it on a significant portion of the undocumented population.
It is just another fascist performance in their theater of cruelty.

(1,732 posts)They knew they couldn't round up even a fraction of the immigrants who could be arrested. This is just something they can use when they feel like it. Same thing as the old vagrancy laws.

A three-judge panel of the New Orleans-based 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals split 2-1 in saying in a brief order that the measure, known as SB4, should be blocked. The same court is hearing arguments Wednesday morning on the issue.....
The appeals court appeared to be taking the hint from the Supreme Court, which in rejecting an emergency application filed by the Biden administration put the onus on the appeals court to act quickly.
"If a decision does not issue soon, the applicants may return to this court, conservative Justice Amy Coney Barrett wrote in a separate opinion joined by fellow conservative Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

Yeah, except for the money part. It is kind of hard to get things done without funding.
