and Rs are looking like fools. Many of their claims have been exposed as Russian propaganda. Bill Barr has been implicated in the false claims.
My question is: why isn't this being shown on CNN and MSNBC? It's just as important to expose these lies to the American people as it was to show the real impeachment hearings against cheato. The people should see how low these rightwingers will go, and how intermeshed they are with Russian interests. That's important. That's newsworthy, don't you think?

(8,503 posts)until 10 minutes into their half hour broadcast... after reports on a number of other stories and an Al Roker weather forecast.
But at least they did air Parnas' saying Repugnantcans enlisted him to find dirt on Joe Biden, he found absolutely none, and that the MAGA scum in Congress were essentially acting as treasonous agents of Putin.
senseandsensibility
(24,974 posts)But you know it would be otherwise if the hearing had gone bad for Biden!
B.See
(8,503 posts)While the hearing was on impeachment, a much-talked-about topic at Fox News, the network did not spend much time covering it after Lev Parnas, a former associate of Rudy Giuliani and a witness called by the Democrats, began speaking.
"The American people have been lied to by Donald Trump, Rudy Giuliani, and various cohorts of individuals in government and media positions," he told the House Oversight Committee. "They created falsehoods to serve their own interests, knowing it would undermine the strength of our nation."

(9,289 posts)Nothing in the top stories. Has the objectivity of the mainstream media been an illusion my entire life?

(24,974 posts)That's really amazing. You know that if there were any bombshells that implicated Biden we would be hearng about nothing else.
Because, other than a brief spell in the 70s, the media has always had the backs only of the rich, the powerful and especially the white and conservative.
erronis
(23,880 posts)by their lack of important coverage. I'll see lots of stale 2+ day-old articles. Of course they don't let us select which sources since they know best.
Always looking for a better overall news aggregator.

(1,051 posts)Back when mainstream media was more unbiased, the rightwingers came up with the ingenious strategy to 'work the refs' and complain that the objective coverage was inherently biased against conservatives (because reality is, as we know, biased against conservatives). The end result was that networks became so afraid of being called by rightwingers biased against the whiners that they started this current both-sidesing trend that has diminished media from its traditional position as an adversarial watchdog to feeling the need to include minority views no matter how insignificant lest they be accused of bias.

(24,974 posts)I just saw that CNN is covering it but they are referring to shenanigans on both sides and not addressing the real issue, that the charges are false. And they're not live; Tapper is putting his spin on it.

(53,179 posts)I watched about 15 minutes of The Five and saw some mind blowing spin. They have nothing but still scream about how corrupt Biden is. Even with no evidence.

(102,793 posts)Before the third minute so I would guess they thought too many would do the same. I bet tonight there will be plenty for the night crew to say after they have had time to digest it. And it's the middle of the day in the middle of the week, who is watching anyway? I'm waiting for this evening.
senseandsensibility
(24,974 posts)They can be very hard to take, but the Dems got some spectacular hits in. Those should be covered in the summaries of the hearing, but on CNN it was just more both siderism. But you're right, Lawrence will be good tonight.

I thought I could watch it but turns out...
...I just spent 20 minutes transcribing Charlie Syke's comments re the hearing (it was gold) and just as I was adding italics to the post, my wife texted me, and ah! Goddamit! Accidentally erased the whole thing! My own damn fat fingers fault. I was telling myself "use the computer!" But I stayed on the phone with those tiny buttons. Sigh. Not going to do it again!
Oh well. It was only 20 minutes out of my life.

RussBLib
(10,635 posts)What the hell, I used the computer this time. Much easier. Perhaps the PTB didn't want all those names and all that damning testimony to be seen by a wide audience.
from MSNBC, approx 3:48pm Central, 3/20/24
Alicia Menendez: "Charlie, it (the hearing) was a spectacle. I think we've come to expect a spectacle, and yet that doesn't make it any less disappointing because to the Congressman's point, there is actual work that they need to be doing for the American people, right? All of this comes at a price, not just to our politics but to the very essence of our democracy."
Charlie Sykes: "Well, yes, um, but I do have to say that what happened today was truly amazing, even by our standards. I mean, it is one thing to say that this thing is falling apart but, that actually understates how horrifically bad this is. I mean, this is Dumb and Dumber. Lev Parnas, um, coming out and just humiliating this Committee. Calling out by name Senator Ron Johnson, you know, Congressman Pete Sessions, uh, talking about the disinformation, how it comes from Russia. If there was even a LITTLE BIT of shame in James Comer's, uh, personality, they would have just completely turned off the lights and left the room and gone off to, I don't know, a retreat someplace. This was a, uh, you know, really, in one day, you encapsulated how absurd this was. And then, juxtapose it with the actual serious business in front of Congress. We're a few days away from a shutdown, and yet we have this incredibly inept circus going on. And so, it is a circus. We've talked about that before, but the ineptness, the absurdity was just on display. I mean, I just urge people, go, go watch a YouTube video of his (Parnas) testimony. Watch the way in which, uh, the Republican members of this Committee were humiliated, how they are flailing here. And, um, again, this is not going to get any better. The criminal referral is a kind of Hail Mary pass. It's a way of saying 'We're doing something.' Doesn't mean that it's not dangerous. A clown with a flamethrower still has a flamethrower. Uh, but, uh, this was a very bad day, um, after many many bad days for this Committee."

senseandsensibility
(24,974 posts)Just add it to the list. The other day I read a good post on here about how Hillary was asked over and over why she didn't leave Bill during the Lewinsky thing, but Melania has never been asked why she didn't leave cheato.

(9,056 posts)and it is true. From the media perspective I remember when women were on panels giving their opinions as to what Hillary "should have done." I remember female anchors and reporters with their disapproving expressions and statements. Not a word for Melania.
I mentioned in an OP awhile back how the media and the political world tore apart Gary Hart during his campaign when the picture surfaced of his "girlfriend" sitting on his lap on a boat. Basically put the scarlet A on him for his marital infidelity and ended his political career for the most part. Torn to shreds by the same people who had many in their ranks doing the same thing but yet being protected by the very same ones howling the loudest.
