It is still a few days too early to tell and there is still a part of me that believes he will pull a rabbit out of a hat next Monday but the days are dwindling. The question is.....will the biggest racist of all racists and biggest grifter and con man of of all grifters and con men have finally met his match in a super intelligent African American woman named Latisha James from the state of New York?. Several years ago while campaigning for New York attorney general she branded the then-president a con man and ″carnival barker and pledged at that time to shine a bright light into every dark corner of his real estate dealings. Keep the faith because it is very possible next Monday that the hammer will finally come down on the most corrupt and dangerous man in America. Please let it be.

(96,882 posts)You're not going to see a pickup truck arrive at Trump Tower to haul out the furniture and fixtures. Legal documents will be filed in Courts to claim property titles and attach bank accounts. Nothing exciting is going to happen in the short term.

(3,118 posts)if Ii'm wrong, but I would also guess that any filings to seize the properties would be put on hold by the courts due to pending litigation (the appeal).

(96,882 posts)He CAN appeal, but the legal claims against him can proceed without the Bond.
can't see this holding up to the test of time.
How can you prohibit someone from appealing a court ruling that fines them 400 million dollars unless they first pay the 400 million dollars? That would basically be denying an American citizen their right to appeal if they weren't able to afford the penalty they are appealing.
Again, it's sad that I have to put in this disclaimer, but no, I'm not taking Trumps side here. But imagine judges setting bond so high in common cases that no one could afford it, and telling them they weren't allowed to appeal until they paid a bond that no person could ever hope to afford.
Even though this makes Trump miserable, I have fears this is all going to seriously backfire in the end. I even wonder if he actually does have the money, but is playing this angle on purpose.
Forgive my skepticism, but I just don't trust this guy much.

Easy. Most people don't crime their way up to a half billion in debt. They stop. Like when Trump owed E Jean Carroll $5 million. He could have shut up. He was invited to shut up. He was instructed to shut up. He was fined for refusing to shut up. And he ran the tab up to just under $100 million by not shutting up.
I think you're probably okay unless you plan on running out to rape a bunch of women and defame them or performing fraud to the tune of multi-million dollar criminal acts.
If you can't afford the penalty don't do the f*%*ing crime.

(3,118 posts)get all of that, I'm just having trouble understanding how this can be applied and possibly abused in other cases. It just seems sketchy from a layman point of view and I worry that it is his way out of the whole thing.
Maybe I just need to shut up since I don't know what I'm talking about.

(96,882 posts)The purpose of the Bond (which he can't provide) is to stay any claims while the appeal is underway. Without it, claims can begin on Monday.

(3,118 posts)in mind that this is completely hypothetical, so forgive my ignorance, but I don't understand.
Let's assume (for the sake of argument and me trying to understand) that I am accused of embezzling money from an employer, but I am actually innocent. All the evidence still points directly to me and I am convicted. The fine is to pay the company 1 million dollars, money I obviously don't have and could never borrow. Could I actually be denied my right to an appeal if I didn't first hand 1 million dollars to the court for assurance?
Seriously, I'm only trying to understand it. It doesn't seem to be a very solid foundation and could lead to serious abuses in the justice system. And again, I'm not saying Trump is innocent, but it does seem that this is highly unusual in territory I'm quite unfamiliar with.

(96,882 posts)Trump can Appeal and file a Bond, in which case the judgements will be paid immediately when the Appeal is dismissed.
Trump can Appeal and NOT file a bond, in which case the AG can proceed with judgement claims against his assets.
Trump can NOT Appeal and can pay the judgement.
Trump can NOT Appeal and NOT pay the judgement, n which case the AG can proceed with judgement claims against his assets.
Trump has the legal right to appeal his decision. But he has been found liable for the fraud charges (not "guilty" since this is a civil case) and the judgement has been imposed. The claims against him can be processed beginning Monday (whether or not he appeals), OR he can file a bond which will result in immediate payment to the AG if the appeal is denied.
nb: Ań appeal of a Court ruling is based on a claim of either judicial misconduct or a flaw in the ruling. Additional "facts" cannot be introduced into evidence at this point.
