https://www.meidastouch.com/news/freedom-caucus-calls-press-conference-to-denounce-speaker-johnsonAll day long, the right-wing Members of the House Freedom Caucus have been complaining on social media, podcasts, and television about Speaker Johnson and House Republican leadership's compromise with Democrats on a "minibus" budget proposal.
The griping started early, as most complained that it was released at 2:00 AM this morning and is being brought to the floor for a vote tomorrow. Johnson pledged that no bill would be voted on until 72 hours after it was released to the Members, and this would violate that pledge.
After Freedom Caucus members has a chance to start to read the bill, things have gotten progressively hotter for Johnson, leading to the entire group to release a brief statement this afternoon criticizing Johnson and the deal, and calling a press conference for tomorrow morning before the bill is voted on.
It is unclear whether the Freedom Caucus or any member of it is going to call for a Motion to Vacate the Chair for Johnson, or if this is just a gripe session. They don't have the votes to stop this from passing, but they do have to votes to oust Johnson if they choose.
Stay tuned!

If they don't have the votes to block the bill, how do they have the votes to oust Johnson?

(25,715 posts)Will they not be satisfied until a hooded nazi-flag-waving idiot takes the speakership wearing full kkk regalia at the podium? Who can possibly fulfill their grotesque standards?
While slightly amusing to behold, I feel a great shame for my country. Whatever faith my youthful self once had in my fellow Americans has been shattered a thousand times over; now, as I near the end of my story, I feel mostly despair for our future and regrets for the past. Our better natures have risen admirably to meet some of the challenges of the time and left the rest lying broken on the floor around us.
We will be remembered, if any remain to do so, as the ones who let American democracy slip away into tyranny.
We are the hollow men
We are the stuffed men
Leaning together
Headpiece filled with straw. Alas!
Our dried voices, when
We whisper together
Are quiet and meaningless
As wind in dry grass
Or rats' feet over broken glass
In our dry cellar
Shape without form, shade without colour,
Paralysed force, gesture without motion;
Those who have crossed
With direct eyes, to death's other Kingdom
Remember us-if at all-not as lost
Violent souls, but only
As the hollow men
The stuffed men.
