Sparks flew this week when CNN correspondent Shimon Prokupecz caught up with far-right North Carolina superintendent candidate Michele Morrow, who refused to discuss any of her past controversial remarks on social media.
Morrow, a homeschooling advocate who defeated the Republican incumbent for the nomination in a surprise upset, has called for former President Barack Obama and President Joe Biden to be executed, called public schools "indoctrination centers," promoted QAnon conspiracy theories, and suggested that China stationed troops in Canada to rig the 2020 presidential election none of which she was willing to discuss with Prokupecz.
"I want to ask you ... do you still stand by your comments about former President Barack Obama and that he should be executed, calling for the death of of other presidents?" asked Prokupecz. "Do you stand by what you've said about the public education system and that needs to be destroyed? Do you stand by that? Do you understand the concern that people have with this nomination?"
--------------------------------
"But you have said such hurtful things in terms of transgender students," Prokupecz continued.
"I am so done with the gotcha moments," Morrow snapped.
"This is not a gotcha," said Prokupecz. "This is your own words, ma'am ... you have said that the former president"
"How do you know?" she said.
"Because you tweeted are those not your tweets?" Prokupecz said. "Do you deny saying that? You have an opportunity now. Do you deny saying that in those tweets?"
Morrow still refused to engage with the questions and only replied, "I am going to discuss education."

(25,160 posts)I thought Raleigh had a more educated population and the area was becoming a tech magnet. I can't see them going for this, but I could be wrong. In California where I'm from, even most R's wouldn't go for that.

(14,478 posts)NC Republican Party declines to say if they support Superintendent nominee Morrow
RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) The North Carolina Republican Party declined to say whether they stand by Michele Morrow, who is the partys nominee for Superintendent of Public Instruction, amid reports about her social media posts calling for the executions of Democrats.
The posts, which were first reported by CNN, were still visible on X last week. On Thursday, the account appeared to have been deleted.
In one post in May 2020, she responded to a suggestion that former President Barack Obama be placed in Guantanamo Bay by saying she would prefer a Pay Per View of him in front of the firing squad.
She went on to write, We could make some money back from televising his death.
In another post regarding President Joe Biden calling for people to wear masks in late 2020, she said, We need to follow the Constitutions advice and KILL all TRAITORS!!!
The NCGOP declined to comment Thursday on the situation including when asked whether the party stands by Morrow.
Morrow nor her campaign spokesperson have responded to requests for comment about the posts.

(3,001 posts)There were no answers.
Just her spouting her phony talking points.
Did CNN's reporter or the network expect her to retract or admit to her comments?
Of course not.
But, she did get all of her maga talking points in for CNN's audience.

Damned if they do, damned if they don't

Result? No accountability. And a waste of time and resources.

(3,435 posts)Do you think students should learn about a comment that one high-ranking NC politician made which called for the televised execution of a former US president?"
So that's a question about her educational policies, not about whether she said such and such.

(22,703 posts)He did NOT let her off easily at all, he pushed and pushed, and he obviously made her very uncomfortable.
I hope this goes viral. Even though she escaped without answering his questions in the end, her behavior will look bad to anyone who isn't already a Moms for Liberty nut.
I REALLY hope she loses. She acted like no one has the right to care unless they live in NC, but I've got news: some of us care very much about ANY public school or school system ANYWHERE in this country falling under the control of a lunatic like her!
calimary
(90,310 posts)So let me get this straight. If you directly quote provocative or controversial comments someone has made, in public, and then ask that someone why he or she said that stuff to begin with, that's a "gotcha"? Perhaps it is. She should have been ready to be challenged on it. But maybe she just assumes everybody else shares that same view that she's expressing, so what's the big deal, then?

(9,132 posts)She'd do well as the Superintendent of Indoctrination Centers, or the Superintendent of Public Execution.
But probably not so well in an election for Superintendent of Public Instruction.
Where do the Republicans find these morons?
