I would think Garland should be going after all the insurrectionist in Congress instead of Apple. Is this really his priority? I think Garland and Wray should be fired and investigated for obstruction of justice.

(97 posts)I'm not OK with insurrectionists in Congress either. I think this might be a slightly bigger problem. The problem is Garland is ignoring them, while they set on committees destroying our democracy. Garland and Wray should be fired and investigated for criminal obstruction of Justice.

(2,332 posts)Apple isn't the only cell phone maker. That would be a monopoly.
Proprietary software for a product isn't a monopoly, and only stupid people think it would be, because a bunch of products out there have proprietary software in them. Nobody's bothered at all that Sony doesn't use the same software in its TV operating systems that LG does, and vice versa. The software in one company's refrigerator or washing machine isn't necessarily the same as that of another maker's refrigerator or washing machine, and nobody's whinging about that, either.
Apple doesn't owe anyone a bloody thing for applications and features that it develops for its own devices in a market with other company's devices to be had. I don't see any of the nitwit Apple-haters whining about features a Samsung Galaxy has that Apple users don't, so why apply a standard to Apple that you don't apply to Samsung?
All of the rabid, irrational Apple-haters out there will just have to live with the reality that a company can come up with features for its products that they don't have to share with others, just because other users are jealous of a superior product.

(10,943 posts)... should have stopped these practices (outlined by Garland in his appearance yesterday) and moved toward regulations. I wonder if this becomes political? Trump people might see "the Government" going after poor little Apple. Then, they can change their name to Orange.

(11,971 posts)The California Supreme Court in a decision delivered on Thursday found Apple broke state law by not paying retail workers for the time they spent participating in mandatory bag and device searches, leaving the company liable for millions in unpaid wages.
In a unanimous ruling the court holds employees were and are in Apple's control during mandatory exit searches of bags, packages, devices and other items. As such, Apple is required to compensate its employees for time spent on the anti-theft program, which in this case allegedly amounted to up to 20 minutes worth hundreds or thousands of dollars a year.
