If Trump has deteriorated even more, or even if he hasn't is it possible that nice guy Joe would pardon him for federal crimes.
It will be totally horrendous and totally wrong, but I can see the possibility of Biden doing it and thinking he's taking the high road and doing what he thinks is best for the country.

This bat-shit crazy movement won't end with a Trump defeat in 2024. I think there is every chance that Trump tries again in 2028, even if they prop him up "Weekend at Bernie's" style.

(114,457 posts)I personally adore Biden. Others may not. But what he is not, is stupid. He's both lived history and LEARNED from it--an issue near and dear to my heart, Santayana's, and my sig line.

(20,763 posts)ɓut I don't think Biden would throw a wrench into the wheels of justice.
I can't imagine any Democrats asking him to do it either.

On the list of things to worry about, this is a few places below finding out the Earth is scheduled to be demolished to make way for a new hyperspace bypass.

(3,772 posts)And that hyperspace byway is not going to happen. The supreme Court ruled it would be unfair to all preborn children on Earth. So no need for your towel

(28,539 posts)Biden plays a nice guy on tv. Hes a feeling person I have no doubt.
He was also the senator from the most ruthlessly corporate state in the union for over 40 years. He knows where all the bodies are buried and is not tolerant of those who attacked his family members, both living and dead. I would not fuck with him.

(71,554 posts)including the presidential one in the 80's where he was smeared. Biden is a good person as many have noted. My sister played around with the GOP during the Bush years. And one time she called me and said she had switched her registration back to 'D'. This was when Hillary was in the Senate and it was an all-nighter, I don't remember the details. No one could go home. Biden wanted to send the older Senators home...I know Thurmond was one of them and maybe Byrd...can't remember. There were others of course.
Sis called his office to express her approval and got Biden on the phone. He answered his phone! They discussed how important it was not to be uber-partisan and have compassion. My sis was very impressed and has voted a straight Dem ticket since then. She was so impressed. But don't kid yourself when necessary, he can be very ruthless. He got the only gun safety bill and the violence against women through the Senate by a combination of twisting arms and a charm offensive.

(7,875 posts)People like to frame TFG like Nixon. Nixon had plenty of supporters, but as far as I am aware he didnt direct anyone to violence. He knew enough to maintain secrecy about his crimes, and pretty much stepped away from the spotlight. TFG supports insurrection, tried to keep Biden out of office after he lost the election and has inspired a movement that no presidential act can suppress. I doubt that he would do the work of the GOP. This is their monster.

(5,525 posts)I believe is a very intelligent man, who knows that pardoning someone who encouraged an insurrection, would just open the door wider, for more want to be dictators to attempt it.
That's why I feel like of course beating Donald the Traitor Trump at the ballot box is essential, but making sure he is held criminally responsible to the fullest extent of the law is also key. If he faces zero legal consequences what deterrent is there from him or any other power hungry ass, from trying again?
President Biden I think gets that, but I'm not sure some others do.

(12,568 posts)Joe Biden is a good man, forgiving, yes. But we're into national security concerns with Donald Trump, as well as what he hoped to do on J6. This is far beyond Nixon's actions and/or behavior while serving in office.
The head of this snake needs to be nailed to the wall, otherwise the rule of law means nothing.

I do not expect Biden would do this, and I like him a lot.
