I avoid conversations with MAGA, but this time

I was in the doctor's office waiting room. In walked a dude fully decked out in Chump gear. Including, "I identify as a pissed off American slogan."

He sat across from an older couple. The woman eyed him and said a lot of people agree with you. I couldn't help it, " I said not everybody."

The Chumper eyed me. I was wearing my battered ball call that identified me as a an Army Ranger. Major Cognitive Dissonance for him I'm sure. You could see the wheels turning. So he asked me, "you an Army Ranger?" I said Yep. Then I asked him, "what Branch were you?"

The hemming and hawing began. I went back to my book.

Was based on the bible. I called BS with a warning that I had a copy of the Constitution in my handbag. Bring your bible, and let's see what matches up. We'll start with the three branches of government, and the minimum ages for representatives, Senators and POTUS. Or how the First Amendment says freedom of religion--as in freedom not to believe in an invisible space pal at all.

Do find the verses that mention any of that. I'll wait.

The fool never brought up that hoary old nugget again.

while riding a bus across country.

The bus was packed, he was right next to me, and I couldn't avoid his preaching. Standard right wing Jesus stuff, heavy on the sin and damnation, nothing on feeding the poor, clothing the naked, visiting people in prison, welcoming the stranger, etc.

Luckily, I know quite a few Bible verses, dating back to childhood. I was able to rebut everything he said, citing chapter and verse.

It ended after he said, in frustration, "How do you know God hasn't sent me to you to show you the Truth?"

To which I answered, "How do you know God hasn't sent me to YOU to show you the error of your blasphemous ways?"

That shut him up for the rest of the trip. I often wonder if our encounter did him any good.

Then the ten commandments would actually be codified.

So when challenged with this concept, simply ask..."so how many of the 10 Commandments are actually laws"

The answer is 2.

And lets face it, No killing and no stealing are kind of obvious,

So spare me the nonsense and stop putting those things into courthouses,

So it is a fair point.

Although many Christians have interpreted as a prohibition against lying in general and we see how well that is going.

Even if you use 3 as the answer, I still love to hear Christians try and explain that.

Oregon outside of Portland Metro, Eugene, we're struggling. I would love to see a hard campaign here for Dems, because I think there's some issues we could win on. But, it would take money and effort that we're just not worth right now. We need to concentrate on keeping a Dem Gov! Otherwise, we will be totally screwed.

According to Politico Portage went for Trump in 2020.

Fewer Trump signs than there were where I am.

Kent is blue likely because of Kent State.

In the primary the Democratic Party didn’t run anyone to be candidates for several offices in the general. I don’t know if this is due to a lack of people willing to run or just a county party office with few resources.

My mom always had a big garden and I’d help out. Produced way more than she could ever use but I learned to enjoy gardening. I’m sure it was her favorite hobby. Haven’t had one in years since I sold my house and started renting.

We like the area. My brother-in-law is next door which is great as he is a good guy. We ended up here because we had to be in my territory for the company I was working for at the time. We both had family in NE Ohio as my wife and I grew up in Maple Heights which is a Cleveland suburb. The house next door to my BIL was available so we got it. The politics in Portage suck but most people I run into are OK.

The fire in Garrettsville took out three buildings, iirc. They were leveled.

We have eaten Sean’s Pub, Cal’s and The Brick. The Garrettsville theatre was redone a few years ago and is still a going concern.

One thing that happens when confronted with their own stupidity. Often they start ranting and you can't get a word in edgewise like if the last man talking wins. This is combined with whataboutism and the price of gas. A year or more ago I decided to give them a bit of their own medicine. Instead of backing down I engage fully and just keep saying what I can to dispute just about anything they say. Except the issue of guns I won't argue guns with them. Around Trump arrest time I bought 5 "Make prison great again" T shirts and wore them for a week straight. I now wear them about once a week. I also have a "talk to me about politics" ACLU shirt a Justice matters T shirt and the biggest reaction from the magas is the" Kamala Harris For the people" They hate that one with a passion.
politics wasn't a thing at work until Trump put in the Muslim Ban. when he did that's when the Magna movement really started to me. I feel it was 4 years of abuse. Followed now by another 4 years of more abuse. It has to end someday! At least I think it will. probably will take a new party though.

Other than that, me too. I work at the Pentagon now and since Space Force stood up it's kind of funny to watch them in the halls. They got to keep their previously earned awards from their prior services, so there is at least one Space Force Colonel wearing a Ranger tab.

Guy in the HEB was wearing a AR-15 t-shirt with some 2nd Amendment gibberish on it and I asked him he thought the parents of all those slain kids would appreciate his shirt. He scowled at me, then looked up and saw my 2nd Armored Cavalry ball cap and said “oh, you probably think everyone should serve in the military”. I looked him dead in the eye and said “I can tell by your question that you never served, but yes, maybe if everyone served they’d know what weapons of war are capable of and what they do to the human body”. His wife grabbed his arm and hustled him off sputtering at that point, but the dumb look on his face was priceless.

He hit me with that shit one day and I locked and loaded on him.

“Yeah; you’re a fucking warrior-dentist! I bet I’m the only you know who is qualified on the main battle tank and every weapon on it! And every weapon an infantryman uses. I’ve fired more real weapons than you ever have, to include missiles and calling in artillery. But, sure; you bought a Glock one day to get your dick hard so you’re a fucking ‘warrior’!”
