Excerpt from Wash. Post - Why Steven Mnuchin's plan to buy TikTok, but not its algorithm, has some insiders bewildered

Excerpt is below. I think the plan is to make it highly favorable to conservatives and get rid of the kids on TikTok who are not fans of the GOP. The GOP doesn't want the kids talking. Plus Mnuchin feels he can make some money along the way. My take is he has no idea what is involved in making an app like TikTok.

"Why Steven Mnuchin’s plan to buy TikTok, but not its algorithm, has some insiders bewildered

The former treasury secretary is telling investors he aims to buy TikTok without its export-blocked code, according to two people familiar with the pitch who spoke on the condition of anonymity. The plan would require Mnuchin to rebuild a service built on billions of lines of code — including the popular video app’s coveted recommendation algorithm — an idea observers said suggests a lack of familiarity with how tech companies actually work."

He sees what Truth Social did to make Trump (theoretically) rich again with a handful of servers, some open source code, and an operating loss over ten times their gross revenue and thinks he can replicate that success. All he needs is to fake it until he can take it public somehow.

and rolling without buying the algorithm. Somebody should mention the travails of the owner of "X, formerly known as Twitter" to him.

No, on second thought, don't mention it to him.

It's hard for me to hate Mnuchin completely. This f*cking guy is an exec producer on one of my favorite movies Batman v Superman.
