My neighbor is flying an all black US flag. Looks like it is a "no quarter" flag. Should I be worried? I did not think he was a trumper but looks like this is an alt-right thing right now. ??
I am a veteran and I get really upset when people fly these altered US flags - it seems very disrespectful.
This same neighbor wanted to buy my deceased husbands truck a few years back...now I am sooooo glad that I said no.

Not violence or threats of violence. That flag has come to be known as a "No Quarter For The Enemy" flag.
Guess what? You are their enemy - through no fault of your own.
They've shown us they can believe absurdities - and those who believe the absurd will commit atrocities. Voltaire got it right. We saw it on January 6th - and more recently - the violent attack against Mr. Pelosi.

(53,162 posts)The poster was just expressing concern that the neighbor might be a possible threat. That said, before a person commits an act of violence, there are often warning signs and hopefully observant people notice.
I would be concerned if someone like that lived next door to me. In recent years, we've seen what disturbed people are capable of and I wouldn't take that lightly.

(19,146 posts)That is a HARD STOP.
When I took a VERY BRIEF excursion into the meaning of the flag via the google, I found very quickly that it means "no mercy" will be given to "the enemy". Who is "the enemy"? And in what sense does a citizen of the U.S. get to choose when "no mercy" will be given?
We have a system of LAWS and COURTS. People taking the law into their own hands is half the problem of violence in this country.
Does someone raising this flag really believe there will come a time here, when they can carry out the meaning of that flag, and not face the justice system themselves, presumably for murder?
(and yes I realize, such a time already existed in this country. Most of us don't need to look up "lynching".)

(22,456 posts)...I assume that anyone flying this black flag are announcing their intention to be violent when they believe the time has come to physically fight for trump, a decision to be made by them based on his inuendo (such as creating a bloodbath if he loses) or outright statements (such as "fight like hell" on Jan 6th.).
I do not take that warning lightly, as incompetent as they may be, if they armed they can be extremely dangerous.

It's been around at least since 2021. I see them all the time and none of the fools I've seen who fly them have done anything more than mouth off to like minded Stinking Nazi lovers.
As this guy put it in 2021: "The all-black American flags being flown by so-called local patriots apparently means no quarter given and may even imply a willingness to use (lethal) violence against perceived enemies, essentially any non-Trumper who threatens their washed out, retrograde vision of what the U.S. is supposed to look like, how they believe democracy is supposed to function, or what they think freedom is."

(53,162 posts)Yes, this is true in the majority of cases, but often the most dangerous people among us are described by neighbors as, "I was shocked as he was always so quiet and polite". They are currently on a campaign to get the young black man, who recently moved in next to them, kicked out of his housing like they did to me last summer. Thinks I'm not white. They recently claimed the Black guy has been stealing packages off the front porch and she has it on her Ring camera, I think she's making it up. Best to watch your back around them, they are advertising their sense of inadequacy and aim to prove it when the opportunity arises. Some see themselves as self-appointed authorities of something, do beware.

(102,224 posts)From what Ive read this can be a warning that this person is prepared to use violence to defend a point of view. People who disrespect the flag can not be reasoned with. They are the only humans on the earth. The rest are potential targets. What it breaks down to is this person has all of the rights. If a neighbor were to put up a flag or sign of a different philosophy they could be subject to retaliation. Our political signs for a presidential candidate were shot at a week after they burned another to the ground. Hence we keep our choices to ourselves void having a bullet through the house. Thats the way bullying works.

(40,639 posts)... to say the first thing that pops into my head, especially to people who self-identify as violent and crazy.
I've been directly threatened by people holding guns too.
So maybe I ought to know better.
When I was a kid I witnessed my mom in full berserker mode a few times. I once saw her grab a gun out of some fool's hands, expertly unload it, and smash it against a nearby boulder.
Years later she told me that we are pacifists in our family by necessity, not by any natural inclination.
From my personal experiences as a young man I found this to be true.
There are, of course more subtle ways to express one's disapproval of flags flown by hypocrites and cowards -- just about anything that demonstrates you're not a member of their club and you won't be intimidated.
We all need to push back against bullies as best we are able, loudly or quietly. Every little bit helps.

A suspected gunman, who police say shot a Southern California business owner for displaying a Pride flag supporting the LGBTQ+ community, had an extensive social media presence rife with anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric and violent imagery.
Travis Ikeguchi allegedly fired upon 66-year-old Laura Lauri Ann Carleton on Friday after going on a homophobic tirade as he railed against her boutiques display of a Pride flag, a San Bernadino County Sherriffs spokesperson said during a Monday press conference.
Once he had killed the owner of Mag.Pi, Ikeguchi fled and was promptly embroiled in an altercation with police. After exchanging shots with responding police officers, Ikeguchi was killed. His extensive online presence included bigoted language towards the LGBTQ+ community, according to police officials.
The Advocate found that an X formerly known as Twitter account that seems to match Ikeguchi posted anti-LGBTQ+ bigotry incessantly and was highly opposed to abortion. There has been no confirmation of Ikeguchis identity on social media pages, but an X account with his full name was created in 2015.

(15,802 posts)designed to undermine our real flag. It encourages society to splinter into factions who hate the others. The implication is that those who fly these want society restructured to give power to some at the expense of others.
So the black flag means a sociopath lives there, someone who hates ordinary citizens around him. The one with the blue line shows it's someone who values cops over ordinary citizens. (After Uvalde, this was mocked with a thin yellow line.) Red for first responders. Fine, but why not just make a sign that says, I love first responders? You know the answer. These are all coming from a fascist mindset, so they bastardize our national flag to attempt to give their hate legitimacy.
It would not surprise me to learn that even if these sprouted up here organically, the ideas behind them were boosted by our adversaries to build a bandwagon effect, to hasten our society's collapse. They certainly have boosted the hate that fuels all of them.
They are all hideous, fascist abominations and should be rejected by all true patriots, especially those who have served their country and taken an oath against exactly this manipulation.

(4,702 posts)Oh my god the hippies let the flag touch the ground at some point call the cops. Now the cops have their own version of the flag. The US flag has been taken from the average citizen and is now propped in the bed of puck up trucks across the country. There is no flag to fly to represent respect for the Constitution and a country governed by the rule of law! Liberty and justice for all well that has certainly gone by the wayside.

(6,630 posts)If you live near a nutjob, but they are breaking no laws, then there's nothing you can do. Most people, I feel, assume you're a right-thinking person like them unless they see evidence to the contrary. So, don't give them any,. That means no big-ass Biden flag or anything of that nature, and certainly no lecturing to them or trying to convince them of the error of their ways. Nope, just keep your distance from them and let them just go on assuming that you're a solid citizen just like them. That way, if the day ever comes that they do snap, then hopefully you won't be a target.

back slope, several years ago. The determination was that there was nothing specific in the regulations to deal with this obnoxious neighbor, and it did not look like there was anything specific in county or city regs. However, if someone was sufficiently offended, they could hire their own lawyer (and spend their own money) . It might be worth noting that among our neighbors is a married couple who are both District Attorneys, so yes, their opinion was solicited.

the upside-down flag is recognized as signaling extreme distress....)
