MSNBCs Nicole Wallace quite literally threw out her prepared script on Friday on-air while covering breaking news about a new public attack from former president Donald Trump. The visibly angry anchor told a panel of guests that its time to do something different when speaking about Trumps outrageous and sometimes dangerous actions on and offline.
Wallace picked up her news script and tossed it to her right as she explained, I have come on the air with breaking news about requests for gag orders because of threats for judges and their kids more times than I can count today before I got ready.
After she apologized to the person who has to write the banner at the bottom of my show, Wallace added, Donald Trump broke the rule of law. We should cover a broken judiciary in this country. Donald Trump managed to delay every federal, criminal trial based on facts that he barely denies.
Donald Trump managed to enlist the Supreme Court in a delayed process the highest court in the land. Donald Trump brazenly and repeatedly attacks not just judges
judges dont have Secret Service protecting them.

(13,480 posts)My only thought is that it may have something to do with the old boys network, meaning rich white guys get privileges that no one else does. He is clearly a menace and a criminal, but he is treated as a special case by too many people. The SC, for example, could have simply let the DC Circuit ruling stand. Instead, they chose to do Trump a favor and delay so that a trial is now unlikely before the election. What rule of law was not covered by the DC court that they have to intervene? I feel like there are hidden pieces to this puzzle of beneficial treatment for Trump.

(4,259 posts)... in "All the President's Men," FOLLOW THE MONEY! Ya think Trump's getting away with murder? Look at Leonard Leo. Look at every squillionaire in the fuckin' country. Jeff Bezos pays a lower tax rate than a school teacher! AND THEY WANT MORE! What they want is fascism 2.0, the new feudalism, and Republican whores in Congress are more than happy to help them achieve their despicable goals, and to establish a Randian hellscape for all of serfdom that's us while they live in crystal castles, waited on hand and foot.

(4,259 posts)... but I cannot see ANY of the "Christianity" I grew up with in the words or actions of the lowlifes who have perverted it to serve their own nefarious ends. I gave up on religion 60 years ago, and the likes of Kenneth "Largemouth" Copeland, Joel Osteen, Kevin Swanson, Creflo Dollar, and the endless list of mealy-mouthed con artists who rob pitifully-desperate-to-believe-in-something folks of money they can't afford to lose, validates my devout atheism every day. Mind you, I am not prejudiced; I despise all religions equally. Well, I might cut Buddhists a little slack, but the rest of 'em can roast in the Hell in which they so delight in promising me will be my final resting place.

(9,354 posts)For just one example, the reduction of the bond in the New York civil case (a reduction only in the amount of cash he needs to put on the table now - it has no effect on the amount he owes in toto and will not prevent any seizures) has precedents for defendants at all wealth levels (defendant is not the right word for a civil case, but I'm not remembering the right one.)
Delays are also not limited to the wealthy. i've seen cases where the defendant qualified for a public defender be delayed for well over a year. But when it happens to Joe Nobody, who isn't ranting day and night on every communications medium, it doesn't hit the front pages.

(4,259 posts)... ALL the media are owned and operated by the wealthy. Bedtime for Ronzo didn't come nearly soon enough. That fucker abolished the Fairness Doctrine, obliterated barriers that limited how many radio and TV stations one could own in a given market, and an endless litany of regulatory standards that led us to this intolerable place against a bullet-pocked wall, while the oligarchs sip their mint juleps and wait for the firing squads to assemble. He was an evil man.

(25,326 posts)Personally, I find it hard to understand how Americans who take pride in our system of government support Trump. All those soldiers who died in World War II were fighting against the kind of regime Trump wants to create on our soil. How do they not see it?
The March 25 edition of the New Yorker magazine offers some insight. It includes a detailed review of a new book about Adolf Hitler, focused on the year 1932. Its called Takeover: Hitlers Final Rise to Power and is by historian Timothy W. Ryback. It explains how German leaders including some in the media -- thought they could use Hitler as a means to get power for themselves and were willing to look past his obvious deficiencies to get where they wanted. In tolerating and using Hitler as a means to an end, they helped create the monstrous dictator responsible for millions of deaths.
How are those German leaders different from people in Congress saying the election was stolen or that Jan. 6 was not an insurrection aimed at destroying our government? They know the truth, but they deny it. They see Trump as a means to an end power for themselves and their team even if it means repeatedly telling lies.

But I find this incredibly disturbing and offensive.
He was a president. I hate the guy. I'd love to see him in jail. I wouldn't mind a major coronary.
But this is just over the top.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It has been removed. It was a picture of Trump hanging from a tree, with the flag of Russia tied to his ankles. It was beyond sick, and I've never seen anything like it on DU before.
It reminded me of the pictures of Obama hanging. As I said. I might wish a coronary on him, or a debilitating stroke, but that was over the top.
(22,591 posts)We're all frustrated and angry, because trials keep getting postponed for ridiculous reasons, and because he keeps getting away with obnoxious crap. We're sick and tired of it, and with good reason.
But hanging him in effigy? Really? Please explain to me one single positive thing that accomplishes. I can't think of a thing, but maybe you can point out something I'm missing.
In the meantime, I'll tell you what I think it accomplishes: it sends a message that we, Biden's supporters, are no better and no different from Trump's. Is that something we really want? I sure as hell don't.
Getting tough with him is fine. That's what the judges need to do. But our sinking all the way down to his level is not going to help that happen. All it does is make us look like we're not one bit better than the MAGA cultists. I can't speak for anyone but myself, but that is the absoverylutely last thing I want.
(4,466 posts)But I definitely think it is fair game to create the same image as he did with Biden hog-tied and to post it with a thumbs up, if for no other reason than to show the law applies either to no one or to everyone BUT TRUMP! Let's show it! He has gone too f*ing FAR! Let's let the world know if that's the nation we live in! I want to know! I want to know why we keep doing the same shit, getting the same results and never f*ing learning from it! He's trying to show the world the laws don't apply to him and he's succeeding. So let's see how much our law enforcement agencies are willing to reveal to the world about the real America. I want to know! I have a right to know if I already live in an autocracy under the ostensible rule of a man who was not elected to any office, but in fact was voted OUT of office. Or if I live in a nation with laws that just don't apply to anyone at all when someone threatens a president or former president.
(22,591 posts)For the record, it was a photo of what appeared to be a Trump doll or action figure of some sort, neck in a noose, hanging from a tree. As an added touch, his shirt was stained with something that looked like blood. It was more realistic than it might sound from this description, and some of us had a strong negative reaction to it, including qwlauren35, who I was repplying to
Getting back to the original subject, what Trump did was post a video that included a truck with the image of a hogtied Biden on its tailgate. The tailgate image is apparently commercially available and has been for a while, along with a similar one of Trump (or so I've read).
TSF obviously approved of that Biden image and was happy to share it with his followers on Truth Social. In so doing, he called it to the attention of a huge number of people who probably would never been aware of it otherwise. I don't like what TSF did, and I don't like the photo of Trump hanged in effigy one bit more. I was especially concerned about the latter, because I don't like the idea of someone checking out DU, stumbling on that, and getting a negative impression of DU or Democrats because of it. That's what I meant when I said that wasn't a message I wanted to send.
Getting tough with Trump is fine with me. He's been getting away with far too much for far too long. Hanging him in effigy is a whole different story, but it sounds like you didn't see the image I was reacting to, so we weren't really talking about the same thing!
(11,223 posts)...and will remain so. Being up against vile and repulsive evil is new to all Americans. The offended and supporters alike. Dropping to their level isn't the way it should be. TSF personally posting President Biden hog tied and "kidnapped" should be the bail revoking trigger that puts him in jail. It won't be. Remember how much shit Kathy Griffin went through with her ketchup drizzled mask? The power of the government was turned on individuals throughout his term. At every level. None of this is right but it's going to get much worse. Be offended but please don't be surprised. We've had enough. You are applauded for staying on the high road.
(22,591 posts)Something definitely needs to be done about him, but this kind of thing does not help. At all.
I don't mean that when they go low, we should go high, or anything like that. But there's a lot of room between that and sinking all the way down to their level.
This kind of thing is unnecessary, inappropriate, and unhelpful. It makes us look like we're no better than them, and that's not a message we should want to send, imnsho.
(5,350 posts)allowed themselves to be taken over by ruthless dictators. Now I am seeing it first hand. Too many people fail to see the urgency in holding this man accountable for everything he has done previously, and what he will do again only worse, if given the chance to do it again.
This isn't a normal politician. This isn't going to be a normal election. He's not a typical criminal. He IMHO far more dangerous than someone accused of armed robbery. Everyone needs to open their eyes and ears to what he is doing and saying.
I am not saying anyone should do anything illegal to stop him. I just want the government and judicial officials to realize that this isn't their average defendant. He's not even a rational human being anymore. For everyone else's sake and maybe even his, he needs to be legally detained before he does anything worse than what he already has, and it has to be done sooner rather than too late.
(1,134 posts)Ive thought for a long time its follow the money.
When Ronnie lifted the equal time rule is when money came into the media.
Then we had citizens united.
The way I see the current conditions is we are in a situation where we have become subservient to our extremely rich economic masters.
Then, I read and lo and behold, the name Federalist Society pops up and its stealthy influence on the federal judiciary.
Let me end with this thought, we all put our pants on one leg at a time. Someone needs to be secluded until trial. He has threatened and is threatening to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for all of us.
