Newspaper Editor Tells Readers He Must Say Truth About Trump, Even If It Offends

The editor of The Plain Dealer in Cleveland told readers that critical coverage of Donald Trump was necessary despite their objections. “The north star here is truth,” Chris Quinn wrote in a letter from the editor on Saturday. “We tell the truth, even when it offends some of the people who pay us for information.”

“The truth is that Donald Trump undermined faith in our elections in his false bid to retain the presidency,” he continued. “He sparked an insurrection intended to overthrow our government and keep himself in power. No president in our history has done worse. This is not subjective. We all saw it.”

Quinn expressed sympathy with Trump fans who were frustrated that their local news source does not “recognize what they see in [Trump].” But that won’t stop the coverage.

“The facts involving Trump are crystal clear, and as news people, we cannot pretend otherwise, as unpopular as that might be with a segment of our readers,” he wrote. “There aren’t two sides to facts. People who say the earth is flat don’t get space on our platforms. If that offends them, so be it.”

is 95+% owned/operated by Republicans..........sadly, no journalist working for any of them would say anything good about the left or bad about the right if they want to stay employed. And the more a journalist writes lies about how great Trump is, the more likely they are to get a promotion........

One of Hitler's first moves was to take control of the German Media.........

I grew up reading the Plain Dealer every day. My parents were both avid readers and instilled it in their children also. Ohio has been a disappointment to me lately (I no longer live there), but back in my day, it was always Northeast Ohio - the Cleveland area and their burbs - that gave the state the good reputation they used to have. Their libraries were always #1 in the nation and they had top notch universities and colleges. I only wish it would make a comeback and get rid of the likes of Gym Jordan and DeWine.

Chris Quinn had not offered a quasi empathetic apology to Trump supporters because he felt he had no choice but to tell it like it is about their guy, a Hitler-wannabe megalomaniac traitor...

For eight years the media has implored us to "understand" the Trump voter, to see Trump through their filtered lens..to "understand" their shared visceral hate for "the other"....to "understand" the threat a multi-ethnic/multicultural/inclusive United States posed to their restricted Christian whites-only kingdom of entitlement....

I applaud Chris Smith's editorial sentiment, but telling the truth should never come with a caveat...

The media should tell the truth and the fact that most of it no longer does, or twists it so it's sensational and gets ratings, makes this so refreshing.
