Interesting thread and reflects what I've seen:
https://www.reddit.com/r/millenials/comments/1bu05bz/anyone_elses_liberal_parents_addicted_to_trump/
EDIT: Looks like few actually read the linked thread. Not surprising.

Of course I talk about him here, and sometimes think about him after he's done something particularly awful even off of DU - then i go about and think of plenty of other things: serious, or fun.
And:
Fuck that over generalization!

(566 posts)Every time I encounter something like this I think Russian bots trying to drive yet another wedge between groups of Americans. Can't say I know any younger folks who have this level of resentment/disdain for older folks.
And re Trump: it's not an addiction -- more of an infection that if ignored will overwhelm us.

(22,456 posts)...how serious of a threat trump is to our society, our country, and our hopes for a better future for the following generations.
Anything like trump should never be taken as lightly as the link wants us too.

(38,663 posts)The post I responded to was based on the premise that the article claimed liberal parents were pro-Trump. Even a cursory read of the article makes mincemeat of that premise.
Think. Again.

(9,148 posts)The Reddit post says that they are liberal but still can't stop thinking and talking about Trump (in a negative way).
Think. Again.
(22,456 posts)...the more "sane" alternative being to just let trump do whatever he wants and don't worry about it, let alone fight it. I get that.

(46,155 posts)Trump is not normal.
Think. Again.
(22,456 posts)...when the truth is, he IS that bad.
When faced with anything as threatening as trump is to everything one cares about, it would be abnormal to NOT have it at the front of one's mind every minute.
electric_blue68
(26,891 posts)you have to keep him in your mind to that extent. That, imho, would cause burn out!
Perhaps you are being somewhat rhetorical?
Considering I'm usually on DU at 2x/day, often up to 3x's, occasionally 4x's unless something totally awful is happening "right now" (like, life forbid, something like J6) then it would more continuous: I'm always almost checking out some drumphf threads when I'm here.
I also usually pop into The Louneach visit as well for relief.

(5,370 posts)When an individual is a threat to democracy, you tend to talk about them a lot.
I personally would love to never think about him again if he would just go away.

(1,410 posts)Nicole and Rachel come to mind, should he really be covered, allowed to lie at will. Or should it be reported that he is at a rally lying, threatening people on Truth Social, and he is a horrible, immoral, chicken shit of a human being. Anyone voting for him is not a great American and in fact is the opposite. You want your daily dose of tRump hate, flip over to Fox.

I'm still surprised that he hasn't stroked out or have a massive heart attack.

complaining about people complaining about trump are the nader/stein/rfk leaning electorate.

(29,088 posts)That would make sense then. They think: Trump is the only one listening to them, what are liberals complaining about?

A mix of Buffoonery, and danger with "acolytes" who are willing to commit violence on his behalf; luckily with a bunch in jail/prison now.
And some of us SF loving folks sometimes say:
"Ffs, WHY am I in This Timeline!".
😨😭
Sigh.

(6,309 posts)People don't seem to ignore him. They love him or they hate him, but either way, they talk about him. I have to admit that I post some of the dumbest memes I see about him, and some of my friends laugh. It plays out here on DU. We are not ignoring him. We are constantly pointing out everything he says or does that is negative, and having a laugh at his expense, but even that just perpetuates his existence in the media.
Biden does not have an oversized personality - he is not as much fun to talk about. This is part of the media issue. I think that's why I liked the Dark Brandon ad. It gave him character and personality. Same as the SOTU. Character and personality. Same as him calling Trump a "son of a bitch" off-mike. Character and personality.
The media never seems to talk about Trump's position on the issues other than making abortion illegal across the country, and "closing the border". They talk about "dictator on day one" and "rescuing the hostages". I think he hides behind his bluster, knowing that he can't do issues the way Biden can.
And then there is Israel. The NYT today did an article about it today. Trump said the most blah thing, and the Israeli media freaked out, because it wasn't 1000% supportive. Basically, what he said was, "hurry up and get it over with". Sadly, I think this is actually in tune with what the American people want. Everyone wants it to end. Some want it to end with Hamas crushed... and some just want the killing to end no matter what happens to Hamas. And so, Trump will be applauded for this, especially after his handlers spin it - they have already started the process.
I am sorry that I did not see any advice about how to ignore him in general conversation.

(6,309 posts)The man knows how to captivate an audience. Thats the rub. If you ignore him he ends up getting away with being fucking president. I dont wish him harm, but if god could see fit to maybe skip giving a couple kids cancer and throw some discomfort trumps way, Id be infinitely grateful. Might even get me into the pews.

(39,167 posts)That reddit guy strikes me as the kind who considers himself "above politics". You know the type: They like to claim that all politicians stink and concern for such things are a waste of their precious time. When and if they ever vote it's not very often and usually for some green-party dipshit.
