Lara Trump boasted about unemployment under her father-in-law, former President Donald Trump, and received a much-needed reality check on social media.

“We remember Donald Trump as president for four years. You remember how low the unemployment number actually was — the real unemployment number,” the new Republican National Committee co-chair told Fox News’ Sean Hannity Monday while comparing Donald Trump to his successor, President Joe Biden.

But as users on X, formerly Twitter, noted, the former president left office with an unemployment rate of 6.3% — 1.6% higher than it was when he was sworn in.

In 2020, when the pandemic hit, unemployment skyrocketed from a 50-year low of 3.5% to 14.7%.

We have one of the highest death rates per capita. Freezer tractor trailer truck were placed in the back parking lots of hospitals because they ran out of space to put all the dead bodies.

In events like that people are looking for someone to make them feel safe. GWB's popularity rose to like 90% the week after 9-11 because he made people feel safe (regardless of how safe they actually were.).

Covid was another rally-round-the-flag event.

All he had to do was stand up there every day with his medical team. Let Fauci talk, and not use it as a wedge. But he couldn't help himself. Fauci was becoming popular and Trump couldn't stand that anyone else, even somebody on his team, was getting any attention. That's when he started with the not wearing masks, fighting stay-at-home orders, down playing the virus, etc.

He could have stopped campaigning entirely. Said that the health of the nation was too important for him to take time to campaign. What would Biden have done to counter that?

Trump just can't get out of his own way. The only reason he was ever president was because he got to run against Hillary who the right had already spent 25 years running ops against, and got to do so in an election after 2 straight Democratic terms. Any generic republican would have won easily in 2016, but he was bad enough that it was close.
