MSNBC: In his latest pitch, Trump wants to 'indemnify all police officers'

https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/latest-pitch-trump-wants-indemnify-police-officers-rcna130283

Donald Trump apparently envisions a model in which officers who take “strong actions” would not have to worry about being held liable for their conduct.

Dec. 18, 2023, 12:53 PM EST (This statement appeared again yesterday, April 2, 2024 in Green Bay, as below)

During his rally in New Hampshire over the weekend, the former president and suspected felon vowed to “restore law and order,” in part by investigating prosecutors he doesn’t like “for their illegal, racist-in-reverse enforcement of the law.” But then the Republican pitched something new:

“I am also going to indemnify our police officers. This is a big thing, and it’s a brand new thing, and I think it’s so important. I’m going to indemnify, through the federal government, all police officers and law enforcement officials throughout the United States from being destroyed by the radical left for taking strong actions against crime.”

Watching the clip, it’s clear that this wasn’t an off-the-cuff comment: Trump was clearly reading from his trusted teleprompter when he presented the idea.

But at face value, it appears the frontrunner for the GOP nomination envisions a model in which officers who take “strong actions” would not have to worry about being held liable for their conduct.

Trump re-iterated the promise at his April 2 2024 Green Bay rally speech. https://www.c-span.org/video/?c5112523/user-clip-trump-death-penalty

Text:
TO INDEMNIFY ALL POLICE OFFICERS AND LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIALS THROUGHOUT THE UNITED STATES TO PROTECT THEM FROM BEING DESTROYED BY THE RADICAL LEFT FOR TAKING STRONG ACTIONS ON CRIME. [CHEERS AND APPLAUSE] THE OTHER DAY, I WAS VERY HONORED TO VISIT WITH THE FAMILY OF AN AMAZING MAN, NEW YORK POLICE DETECTIVE JONATHAN DILLER -- YOU READ IT -- WHO WAS GUNNED DOWN BY A VICIOUS DOG, PREVIOUSLY ARRESTED BY DIFFERENT LAW ENFORCEMENT AGE AND THE, OVER 21 TIMES, VERY SERIOUS CRIMES, AND THE PERSON WITH HIM WAS KNOWN AS KILLER. HE WAS CONSIDERED WORSE. HE SHOULD NEVER BE ALLOWED TO BE ON THE STREETS AGAIN. WHEN I'M REELECTED, I WILL CRACKDOWN ON THE LEFT WING THAT REFUSE TO PROSECUTE DANGEROUS CRIMINALS. I THINK I'M THE ONLY ONE IN AMERICA THAT HAS TO PUT UP WITH BONDS. IF YOU KILL SOMEBODY, THERE'S NO BOND. GO AHEAD, KILL SOMEBODY ELSE. THESE PEOPLE ARE CRAZY, I WILL TELL YOU. I WILL ASK CONGRESS TO SEND A BILL TO MY DESK ENSURING THAT ANYONE WHO MURDERS A POLICE OFFICER WILL RECEIVE IMMEDIATELY THE DEATH PENALTY. [CHEERS AND APPLAUSE]

Overnight police state. This would empower local police chiefs like feudal lords, not responsible to any oversight. This would render the entire justice system dormant. Please tell me police know this would be a horrendous attempt at total control resulting in chaos.

He doesn't care about police officers.
He is building his own goon squad, his gestapo.
To protect him.

In other places those types of police forces had names like the NKVD, Gestapo, KGB, Stasi...and all of those cops standing with Trump are just itching to shoot anyone who defies their authority.

Any good cop knows a police force without rules or discipline is a recipe for disaster. And Trump knows it.
