Dan Rather: A few people have asked why I vehemently oppose Trump.

Let me make this perfectly clear. It's not about politics. I've voted for both parties.

It's about me, as a patriot, rejecting a cheating, lying, racist, treasonous, fascist, and vile man who attacks the free press, and wants to lead the country I love.

It's really that simple.

born in October 1931 - October is a bit close to Election Day so he might not have been able to vote for Eisenhower in '52 but he ight have done so in '56. I'd forgive him for that. And, no, I don't see him as haviing voted for any of the others.

Also, in the 50's and into the 60's there were still some REpublicans in Cingress who were not insane - I remeber Mark Hatfirled because I met him once, but I know there were more.

And some of the Democrats in and out of office in those days were no bargain for sure. Only after Civil Rights got passed into law did the crazies all go Republican.

It doesn't matter when the response from many on the right will simply be "But Obama had brown skin and a funny name and you supported HIM!!"

It all goes back to America electing and re-electing Barack Obama. And America must be punished for that. It boggles my mind the number of people who still don't get it.

....The Republicon Fake Christians went berzerk about Obama's elections.

Also, during Obama's presidency gay marriage was legalized, the ACA was passed and whamo - the white Christian Industrial Complex realized their power was waning, if not nearly gone.

Of course they adjusted, learned and altered their...... ha ha just kidding - the idiots who believe in Sky Wizards seek to punish everyone because they're scared of the world and so afraid to compete on a level playing field.

I ask them if they also support all his policies, and I go down the list.

When they say NO to nearly all of them, then I ask why would they support a person who wants all of that?

They usually say they don't, then I hit them with "Then why do you support (Dumpy the Clown)? He has said multiple times he wants to do all of that you already said you are against."

They then either respond with *crickets* (the hamster finally getting back on that wheel?) or try some vain tongue-tied response. Either way, they have nowhere to head "logically".

If they try a "I heard it on (Faux News)" I respond with "You need to turn that off, and do some critical thinking with that brain of yours. The one you've been diluting with booze for a few years now. Hopefully, you'll be able to come to your senses by November. If not, well then, you'll get what you deserve."

If they are a MAGAt (I can usually sense one by their clothes and rhetoric), I also get them even more twisted verbally, but I'm a little more forceful about it then. They already showed me theirs, so now I'm gonna show them mine.

Unless I know them very, very well, I cut them off and go Emily Post on them, laying down the law about no politics or religion in polite conversation. I want my illusions intact and the conversation to remain polite.

His fanboys and fangirls don't respond to logic or reasonable persuasion. They're in a cult. I force them to focus on things besides the cult and trying to convert everybody around them into it.. The ones who follow the rules start to realize their lives have been slowly consumed and doubts creep in. The ones who can't follow the rules avoid me. It's a win-win.

I maintained a friendship with a new convert to the JWs for a very long time. I laid down the law in the beginning about proselytizing and said I wouldn't attempt deconversion because it wasn't a nice thing to do. We had a mutual interest noty shared by anyone in the JWs. He managed to comparmentalize.

Dan Rather rose to the upper tier of my pantheon of....let us say heroes, for lack of a more suitable word at the moment. (still on my first cup of coffee) It was during a presser in the early-to-middle part of the Watergate period, and Nixon reacted to the buzz in the press corps when DR was called on to ask his question.

Nixon asked him if, in light of that reaction, he (DR) was thinking of running for office. DR replied

No, Mr, President. Are you?

Nixon failed to see the humour.
