I don't get it.

So if the reddish brown bottom wave represents 50% of the people in the US and then that lighter orange brown wave represents 50 to 90% of people in the US, haven't you now accounted for all the people in the US. Because 50+50=100 and even 50+90=140, now you have exceeded the amount of people at 140% of people.

Or does the lighter color include the bottom 50% already? But if so, then the other layers added in exceed 100%. It's as confusing as a health insurance statement.

61. OK, the dark brown at the bottom represents the bottom 50%.

The lighter brown represents the segment from 50% to 90%. That's 40% more than the bottom part, for a total of 90%.
The yellow segment represents the next 9%; the part from 90% to 99%.
The pale blue section represents the last, and highest 1% of the people and how much wealth they control.

Now if you read the article, and go down to where it talks about the Distribution of US Household Wealth, you can see that the top .1% of the people hold 14% of the wealth, and the top 1% holds 31% of the wealth (14 + 17 = 31). These numbers are going up, as the rich get richer and control a greater and greater portion of the wealth of the nation.

We also need to adequately address fraud (especially over billing) in the Medicare system

We need to talk about ending the income cap on SS withholding. Then we need to put in a transaction fee on high speed trading and use that to fix Medicare.

Then we need to find some way of getting you out of the Senate.

It's clear that the ferret living atop Mr. Paul's skull has finally consumed his brain. There are many ways to sustain vital programs like Social Security and Medicare, but they require mega income folks to pay reasonable tax rates. Saying the quiet part out loud - that the GOP has no interest in doing the right thing and is obsessed with starving grandma and grandpa, instead - is another nail in the GOP's coffin.

That's fine with me.

A good start would be taxing excessive wealth out of existence. Too few people have too much sway economically, politically, and socially due to being ridiculously wealthy. They add little to nothing to our country.

We might also consider consider not treating human beings as commodities. Increasing wages would be a good way to start that.

A third thing is to get corporations under control.

Fri Apr 5, 2024, 01:13 PM

First off we clearly can keep Social Security solvent by popping the cap and applying the tax to all income, not just the first $168,000. But the canard that members of Congress have this great retirement system (and spouses, where did that come from?) is just not true. Members of Congress are in the same retirement and health insurance system as every other federal employee. This whole "They get their full salary and medical care for life", came out of the Tea Party and an attempt to attack public employees. Don't fall for it.
