But, unfortunately, I'm going to need someone to explain the problem with the "self-own" on the home schooling mom. "Teacher" is spelled correctly, the correct "their" is used, and it's used correctly.

The word "teacher" is singular. Using the word "their" (which denotes a plural) is incorrect. When it's about a singular noun, the writer should have used "his/her" (another singular reference) as a follow-up instead of "their".
