I follow Tomi Ahonen. I haven't seen him mentioned here though I'm sure he has and I've just missed it.
He keeps track of trump's court cases, flippers against trump (rat bingo) and other current issues. His predictions are often accurate and he's amusing.
I originally followed him on Twitter. He left Twitter and now posts to Mastodon, Spoutible and Post.
He also likes to do mathematical analysis.
He posted a thread on 4/2 about trump's net worth in which he concluded that trump is actually worth only between $100 and $200 million, excluding whatever is going on with Truth Social. Ahonen says he started 2024 worth about $400 million but used part of his holdings as collateral for the Chubb bond and the rest for the Hanky bond which now appears to be falling apart. Assuming he forfeits those two bonds he still owes the balance on his civil fraud fine: $454m - 175m = $279m, which he doesn't have.
I couldn't download the complete thread on net worth but this is part 1:
and this is part 19 (end):
Think. Again.
(22,456 posts)...as to why they thought he should only have to secure a bond for a lower amount than the judgement which was based on the amount he defrauded.

(114,615 posts)I've never hear one yet explain itself.
I think he was allowed to post the bond for what the appeals court thought was the most likely reduction.
Appeals courts think it's their job to reduce all awards, no matter the merit. I've never seen an award increased.
Think. Again.
(22,456 posts)...the amount of penalty that was set by the court was specifically the amount he defrauded.
I don't see why any other number would come into it.

(17,802 posts)On why they reduced the bond requirement.
He thought they may have seen something in the judgement, maybe in the way the disgorgement was calculated, that made them think there may have been an error in the amount of the judgement. But not in the merits or the rationale for the judgement.
He thought the amount they settled on was a little too precise to just be a concession or bail out. He is a member of that court and his firm does a lot of work in large civil judgements.
Just a thought.
Think. Again.

(37,848 posts)Has always been too big to fail. This has been true since the late 1980s when he was handed his first big fall in the crash of 87. He expressed the opinion that the only reason he was still afloat was because he owed so much that his lenders couldnt call his markers without going down with him.
Over the last 40 years the times have changed drastically and as usual Trump is lazy. Hes kept playing the same scam in the same way.
The biggest change, and this has gone exponential over the last few years, is that his penny ante $200 M to even $500M of real assets is a big yawn for the real players. It doesnt even get him through the front door to where his ego demands that he belongs.

Hes resorted to lenders whose demands for ROI arent necessarily fiscal.

(53,214 posts)but as you say, he was lazy and just kept doing the same thing over and over again. He thinks he's a genius and sees no reason to change his playbook. He just doubles down. He's done the same thing with politics. He seems incapable of change.

Nazi war criminal Alois Brunner 'died in Syria squalor'
One of his guards said Brunner, who went by the name of Abu Hussein, suffered and cried a lot in his final years, everyone heard him.
The man, identified only as Omar, said he couldnt even wash.
All he had to eat were army rations - awful stuff - and an egg or a potato. He had to choose one or the other.
(He was a 'consultant' to various torture regimes but when he became a political embarrassment/liability, his retirement plan was really bad)

CAVEAT: Well, it takes you to that single post but not the thread. Huh. I'm kind of limited with Mastodon right now. The instance I joined went poof and I have to start all over on another one if I want full access.
I'm very tired.

(5,232 posts)just produced an image of the post and was not a live link to the post on Mastodon itself.
I'm not very familiar with Mastodon or Spoutible so I don't know of an easy way to link to the actual posts or threads on either.
Unfortunately he only way I know to get to them is to go to Ahonen's profile/homepage and then scroll down to the posts on April 2. If someone knows an easier way to access posts from there, I'd appreciate knowing it.
