A UNICEF convoy was hit by gunfire Wednesday as it tried to deliver aid to northern Gaza, the latest in a series of violent obstructions faced by aid workers in the enclave.
"The incident has been raised with relevant Israeli authorities," UNICEF said in a statement. "Sadly, humanitarians continue to face risks in delivering lifesaving aid."
We were waiting there when gunfire broke out." Ingram said. "The gunfire came from the direction of the checkpoint toward civilians who then ran away from the checkpoint. And the gunfire hit us."
She said three rounds hit the car where she was sitting. The mission had been authorized and the Israeli authorities knew about the convoy, Ingram said. After the shooting, Israeli authorities continued to delay the convoy and it eventually was forced to return to Rafah.

(9,647 posts)Kill a few more aid workers and Israeli regime knows that most aid organizations won't want to try to go in and deliver it.
On another note, it's interesting that Tim Kaine came out and said that Netenyahu has been playing Biden like a fiddle. According to Kaine, Biden is now awoken to that fact.

(53,239 posts)I think Biden knew what Netanyahu was doing and was trying to find the most diplomatic and effective way to handle him. I don't think Biden is all that naive. As President, he has to choose his words very carefully, lest he be held responsible for blowing up the entire Middle East.

(38,912 posts)Why was the IDF shooting at civilians near the checkpoint? Not explained. Hamas would be a possibility, however.

(22,710 posts)Implication is that someone was shooting at someone else. Was Hamas attacking the Israelis? Article does not say.
If the Israelis were trying to shoot the vehicles, I would expect more than three bullets to hit when they are parked in a holding area.

Every day they continue the blockade and/or block aid is another day closer to their goal.

(7,794 posts)It used to be that a group would have to be African before the west could successfully ignore preventable mass suffering and death over political boundaries and stuff. Nowadays it's progressed so that the poor of the politically uncertain Middle East have found a place on the scale forgettability in line with Rwandans or Biafrans.
Everyone's expendable. Global climate change has "climate changed" the definitions and perceptions. Any world can be "Third World" now. The miracle of artificial Intelligence and its vanguard, "Conservative Thinking", has inured westerners from unendurable empathy or responsibility. There's no shock reaction in stringing razor wire to "snare and drown" Rio Grande wading infants. Boats of desperation by the thousands, carrying Africans fleeing death and terror at home have, for years, drowned and starved crossing the Mediterranean. It's no longer even a blip on the human atrocity scope.
Who'll be up next? Why, funny you should ask. Ukrainians, Poles and Hungarian dissidents, Russian deserters and Latvian organic farmers are already on the lists along with pregnant Texan and Arizonan rape victims. There's misery enough for all and the mean planetary temperature has just gotten started into the "sorry humans, there's no turning back from here" zone.
If it's any consolation, the laws of physics, which determine the existence of the planet we ride in its trajectory as a universal expansion of matter (or is it a contraction? the jury's out on that sometimes) fraught with gravitational interactions for the last 14 billion years (or twice that according to the latest confusion), are still functioning perfectly, if not mysteriously. As soon as we figure out what time has to do with anything we'll have a scheduling APP available so we can all follow along in the comfort of home or whatever craft we're escaping on.

happen last October in order to unleash his military on the Palestinians living in Gaza.
