Not The Onion. Should be.

Saw this thanks to a quote-tweet from Ron Filipkowski:

Aaron Fritschner
@Fritschner

Amid discussion of whether/when Speaker Mike Johnson will bring a Ukraine funding bill to the floor, the GOP majority just noticed that the Rules Committee will meet Monday to prepare the bills below for floor consideration in the House next week. Sadly, this is not a joke.

A neighbor put in an HVAC two years ago for 8500. Now it’s 14,000. That’s insane! I’m going to need one soon and 14K makes me sick! Actually 8500 makes me sick too. lol.

I guarantee you that, even if they manage to knock a couple hundred bucks off the cost of an HVAC system, that "cost saving" won't come from Carrier, Trane, or American Standards CEOs salary, bonuses and stock options.

Maybe they'll do what Retrumplicans always do. Make shit cheap enough so that the techs installing it can't afford it.

Maybe their plan is to destroy Unions. That's a "good policy" to make things cheaper, right? Like I said; "I am sure that corporate profits won't be a factor they looked to" for "cost savings".

Maybe they'll propose less "regulation". That's how the "free market" works, right?

If design flaws cause multiple families to die from carbon monoxide poisoning, or enough houses blow up, the "free market" will solve the "cost" issue, but don't try to sue the manufacturer, because that would be "frivolous".

If that's too extreme for you, how about they just do away with efficiency regulations. That way, a unit that costs you $1,000 less, will only cost you $10,000 more in operating costs over the life of the unit.

And let's talk about "cost".

I guess I look at it "differently". If a roof for my house costs the same as it did 10 years ago, I think that means my son-in-law that works construction will never get ahead. He'll be stuck on that Retrumplican created hamster-wheel that St. Ronny Ray-Gun created for the Middle Class in the 1980's.

Then, there is the true cost.

A good HVAC Unit should last you 10-20 years. At $14,000, you're paying $2 a day over the life of the unit. For that, you get heat in the winter, cool in the summer, maybe save $10 or more monthly in utility bills, and add value to what most Americans consider their single biggest/best investment.

Retrumplicans have been giving us the "cheapest" government the billionaires can buy, but like my dad used to say; "cheap doesn't mean better"

Of course, he came from a generation that dreamed that their children would do better than them. If he paid the same price for a roof today that he paid 20 years ago, he would have looked me in the eye and said; "damn son, you're fucking screwed"!

...is that automatic dishwash detergents are intentionally formulated to make a bare minimum of foam.
They use higher molecular weight nonionic & low ethoxylated sulfates (anionic) so they get detergency with nearly zero "suds". So, the acronym makes no sense.
Not that any of those dullards would know that.

It's a "Government is going to control your everyday life" narrative that actually works pretty well with the Right.

A lot of culture war things on the Right work because "My attitude is only going to affect other people."

Republicans think they don't have unexpected pregnancies or get abortions. And the men figure, "Kind of not my problem." But pretty much everyone has a fridge in their house. "They're coming for me?! It's on!"

It feels like there are two types of people in the world. There are those who think, "This doesn't affect me, so I absolutely should leave people to make their own choices about it." And then there are those, "This doesn't affect me, so I can feel free to pass judgement and inflict punishment over it."

The latter is why our country sucks a lot of the time.

or enforcing energy conservation standards for refrigerators, refrigerator-freezers, and freezers that are not cost-effective or technologically feasible, and for other purposes. Industry lobbying groups don't want that type of regulation.

https://cei.org/blog/5-bad-appliance-regulations-congress-should-reject-with-the-congressional-review-act/

"This is the third article in CEI’s Special Briefing Series: Defending the Personal Energy Choices of Americans."

"It isn’t just gas stoves. The Biden administration has a bad regulation in the works for almost every home appliance. These regulations can boost upfront costs, compromise appliance quality, and reduce choices. And they all place the administration’s extreme climate agenda ahead of the best interests of homeowners."

"With an agenda so out of touch, it isn’t surprising that some in Congress are fighting back. The House of Representatives has already passed legislation blocking proposed stove regulations, and other bills have been introduced that would do the same for water heaters and other appliances."

"Although there is some bipartisan support for these commonsense measures – each of the two stove bills had 29 House Democrats joining all Republicans in favor – such legislation will have a much more difficult time in the Democratically-controlled Senate. Most likely, they won’t ever be scheduled for a vote. That is why resolutions of disapproval under the Congressional Review Act are a powerful tool. These resolutions provide a streamlined means for Congress to block federal regulations. Once introduced, any resolution to kill off an appliance regulation cannot be kept off the Senate calendar. And, if certain conditions are met they cannot be filibustered, in which case a simple majority would be sufficient."

Liberty in Laundry Act: Wringer washing machines worked just fine for our grandmothers, they should be OK for your wives.
Clothes Dryers Reliability Act: Line drying is better than machine drying. Again if it was good enough for grandmothers...
Refrigerator Freedom Act: The term "Icebox" will have a real meaning.
Affordable Air Conditioning Act: All residential windows should have the ability to open and have screens.
Stop Unaffordable Dishwasher Standards Act: Allow for the hiring of minors as young as 9 years old to work as domestics to wash dishes and clean kitchens.

There I translated it.
