(10,969 posts)I recently went to one for the first time to get fitted for a suit. I've never been a suit person (never really needed one) and I hate dress shirts. I have chest and shoulders that are broader compared to my waist. So the choices are always lower torso fits, but I am in serious danger of ripping out the armpits with shoulders that look like Dynasty But With Meth. Or, my shoulders and chest fit, but my lower torso is functionally a sail, and I should avoid tall bridges.
I had no idea a suit could actually be comfortable. It was rather revelatory.
And expensive.

(10,969 posts)Which isn't "expensive" for a suit. But for someone who wears a flannel and jeans all day everyday and shops at Ross and TJ Maxx, it was a bite.
I ended up going to Men's Wearhouse, because it was nearby. I highly recommend it.
They have cheaper options. I saw rather nice things there for as little as $200. But it was a super important occasion where I had to speak at length with everyone staring at me, so I opted for something a bit more, lol.

Thats not as much as I thought it might cost. Good to know, especially for that particular store. Thanks for the info!

(10,969 posts)My brother said, "I don't think I've seen you in a suit since your first communion."
Definitely check their website. They have tons of stuff. I glanced at it last night after your question, and they do have tall options.

(26,540 posts)I think he didnt have much luck with suits there because he was shopping during Christmas season. There must be a lot of tall guys in the area lol.

(28,705 posts)I watched your clip with Gleason on the Carson Show. Gleason looked wonderful in his dark suit. It made him look slim.
Those were the days ...

(114,615 posts)He even made Ralph Kramden's bus driver uniform look tidy because Gleason used a tailor to make sure everything fit properly.
It's why TFG looks like an unmade bed, he thinks he can wear off the rack and is too much of a germaphobe to have a tailor alter the clothing to fit.

(10,486 posts)The Great One had a good tailor.
The SF buys expensive suits and wears them off the rack. No tailor can take or know his actual measurements.
