Its astonishing that we are not standing firmly with Israel, the Democratic senator said on Sunday.

Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) pushed back on Sunday against President Joe Bidens reported warning to Benjamin Netanyahu that the U.S. would not join in an attack against Iran, repeating his monthslong refrain that the U.S. should unconditionally support Israel.
Its astonishing that we are not standing firmly with Israel, Fetterman told CNNs Jake Tapper on State of the Union. There should never be any time for conditionsall of that when a nation can launch hundreds of drones towards Israeland Im not going to be talking about conditions ever.

Fetterman has emerged as one of a faction of elected Democrats who maintain total support for Israel despite the countrys bombardment of Gaza after the Oct. 7 massacre by Hamas. The war in Gaza has resulted in the deaths of more than 33,000 Palestinians, according to the Hamas-run Palestinian Ministry of Health. Still, Fetterman has remained unequivocal, even as his support among younger voters waned earlier this year.

But, if Iran launches more attacks on Israel, I believe that Biden would back Israel's defense.
Biden is seeking a non military coalition response to Iran's attack. I'm guessing that he will push for economic sanctions.

(21,602 posts)government. If I were an Israeli citizen, I would not vote for his Likkud party.
But, I do not think that his attack on Iranian National Guard commanders in Syria was motivated by a desire to keep out of prison. His actions prior to 10/7 regarding Israeli courts was an attempt to stay out of prison.
But the killing of the Iranian Guard commanders was in response to attacks on Israel by Hezbollah, which the Iranian Guard aids and supports as a proxy terrorist group.
Fetterman does not come across to me as a guy who makes public statements just to get attention. But I think that Biden has the wisdom and experience to handle the situation better.

I support democracy.
If people can shout "Death to America," without impediment, Fetterman can also speak freely.

And by "fully assume," I mean I know that it won't be. For obvious reasons.

I like Fetterman, but his knee-jerk responses are based on emotion, not thoughtful analysis. Schumer needs to take him aside.

(32,729 posts)WE determine the time and place of entering into another war.
Didn't we help defend from all the hundreds incoming drones? How is that not standing firmly with Israel? 🙄
Standing firm doesn't mean we need to keep fucking escalating or seeking revenge. There are millions of lives at stake here.
All these people talking from the comfort of their homes about escalating things need to tone it the fuck down.

(102,351 posts)These "kneejerk" assumptions and utterances to the media are beyond wrong. There are 333 million of us in the US who don't want WWIII (not to mention the nearly 8 billion worldwide.
Be responsible, Fetterman. Stop with the kneejerk statements.
