General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI want to thank each and every person who wish me well in my thread about my Lung Transplant...
I got some good news, some sobering news and also clarified a whole bunch of what will be happening in the next few years.
I'm still trying to get my head around all that happened today and I don't want to set it out for everyone before I have it all clear in my own mind.
I guess what I wanted to say is that before I left to head over to the Cleveland Clinic I took a peek at my post from the night before and I was overwhelmed by all the support.
I felt as if I had a village behind me because that is what it takes to help people through life changing moments.
I have to admit that I was a cynic until I found DU. And I have to admit that I thought the notes of good wishes that make DU so human to so many of us were just toss away notions, ephemeral nothings, if you will.
But after all the support I have received from people here and the friends I have made off the board who are connected to DU makes my life richer.
I promise I will be laying out what is going to happen in the next few months in greater detail when i put a day or two between today and how I tell everybody what happened. I have a lot of Friends who read my blog for so many posts that I feel explaining everything on a post would satisfy people here and in all the other parts of my life that have converged on my blog.
I am exhausted both physically and emotionally and I need to take a breath and try to fall asleep.
Again, thank you all for being there for me....

She lives near San Francisco, I live in Chicago but I was there for every appointment, every meeting, and every session.
Getting an organ donation is a grueling process. Its incredibly sobering and I'm still filled with awe at the level of concern and care by "the team" at the California Pacific Med Center who helped us every step of the way.
Feel free to PM me. My sister just got her double kidney/liver transplant in February so its all still very fresh for me.

(111,255 posts)so did you get your transplant? I have an acquaintance on another site who was wheeled into the operating room twice before they found a set of compatible lungs. I'm very happy to say she is doing very, very well and hope you are, too.
There are a few truly great online communities. DU is one of them, all of us clinging together as respite from a world full of hostile wingnuts. People here have helped me when I was down and I hope I've done the same for them.

(111,255 posts)Transplant education and counseling is a big deal. People need to be able to take really good care of themselves after the operation and juggle a large number of drugs so that they can hang onto those new organs.
I imagine he's being kept really busy right now.

(81,238 posts)I've found myself welcoming a fair number of new (or low-post-count) DUers, and mentioning this kind of thing.
DU will buoy you up. You're NOT alone with DU around. You can post at any time and somebody's always gonna be around, regardless what time of day or night it is.
So glad you let us share in the load-lifting!
Meantime, I will be lighting the green candle for you, and concentrating on what green signifies: health, renewal, spring, healing, reinvigoration, and rejuvenation.

(15,801 posts)It was stunning when they told me, almost six years ago, that part of my lung needed to be removed. There's no way such news is received casually. What you are facing is so much more daunting, and I'm pleased to join the ranks of those supporting you. My doctors have brought me through some awful stuff, and they all give the credit to my support system. Just keep reminding yourself that you are not alone.

(34,376 posts)DU saved me and my cats a few months ago. We faced eviction due to a large, one-time bill from my husband's nursing home and I couldn't pay rent + that bill. DU member's unbelievable generosity saved my home and for that I will be forever grateful. Please know we're with you through this enormous challenge. I wish you nothing but the best, Christopher.

Since that time, I have gone through (and survived) Melanoma, and much more. You will come through this surgery with beautiful pink lungs that will help bring Oxygen through to your body and give you many more years with us on DU, with your friends and your family....

(23,867 posts)When I was young I thought the scariest thing would be to have to have a lung transplant. I don't even think they did them yet. But I had an imagination. I just couldn't bring myself to even comment in your thread.
But I honestly feel a sense of kinship for those of us who have been on this forum all of these years. I hope all of the best for you. I've had my "little" share of health issues over the last ten years, and I know what it's like to live a life of discomfort. I sure hope this works for you. I also hope that it gives you time to live life again.
