The media as well as us need to stop calling Trump's Manhattan trial a hush money trial.

Trump's not on trial for hush money payments, though they are certainly part of the equation. As Keith Olbermann noted today, the trial is all about election interference. The payments, as they were, were to bury the stories that voters should have known about and which almost certainly would have kept him from being elected president. Trump and Pecker corroborated in this. And I believe Pecker is testifying against Trump in this trial. But election interference is the problem, not the hush money payments, which are not illegal, if I understand it correctly.

To be accurate, he's on trial for business fraud.

I think the constant repetition of phrases like "hush money" and "porn star" aren't helping the Slobfather any.

It's also simpler than "election interference" or even "falsifying documents," which many voters need to be explained.

Everyone knows what "hush money" is. Everyone knows what a "porn star" is. Together they paint a picture that needs no complicated explanation.

It’s reminiscent of the Left’s perennial difficulty I framing its message. The Right is very good at distilling its message down to a three syllable soundbyte that the media is happy to repeat 80 times an hour, while the Left responds with a ten page single-spaced dissertation in 8 point font and packed full of allusions and cross references and footnotes.

To this day, people still say that Clinton “was impeached for a blowob,” when in fact it was for perjury and boun up with legalistic nonsense about what the “definition of is is.” Regardless of reality, the Right framed it, anhats how people remember it.

Call it a hush money trial. Calling it a trial over allegations of election interference makes it SEM unnecessarily complex and invites the Right once again to frame the discussion, and they’ll be sure to make it an issue Democrats subverting the will othe people an trying to keep “legitimate” Republican voices from being heard.
