but in fact this is where we know him. New Yorkers have known he's corrupt for decades. If he doesn't like the people who know him to try him, that's his own fault. Chickens roosting, and all that.

3. I did a little looking it up and it seems the expression is more about the inevitability than roosting

It seems to be about birds returning as a metaphor for bad deeds being scattered but inevitably come back to punish the evildoer. Birds returning is the metaphor rather than chickens roosting.

Ok, it's experiencing repercussions for your actions. But what do chickens have to do with it, and do they do bad things when they come home or do they just roost, i.e. sleep? If chickens get out and go away do they even come home?

There must be some farmers here who understand the assoiciation.
