PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — A police officer in York County, Pennsylvania is accused of raping a 13-month-old child.

York City Police Officer Steven Kyle Cugini was arrested on Tuesday and faces a list of charges, including rape and aggravated indecent assault, after an investigation by Pennsylvania State Police, CBS 21 reported on Wednesday.

Troopers from Lykens first responded to reports of severe bruising of a 13-month-old child between April 11 and April 15, according to the TV station. An investigation found that the infant suffered broken bones, severe bruising and sexual violence.

According to charging documents obtained by the TV station, the infant had a broken tibia and fibula in her left leg and other injuries that showed evidence of sexual abuse.

When he talked to investigators, according to the TV station, Cugini blamed the injuries on diaper rash, a fall and the family dog. He later admitted that the injuries happened while he was taking care alone, CBS 21 reported.

5. For most of my life, up to the not so distant past, I've been vehemently opposed to

the death penalty. I had a major issue with the state taking the life of anyone convicted of a crime, regardless of said crime.

In the last several years I've questioned this, to the point where I could almost be convinced that public executions in a sports arena, with pay-for-view as well, doesn't seem that far fetched, especially if a perp like this is convicted of such a crime. I'm usually not an overly emotional person, but the depravity of this one gets to me.

She should be charged as well and never have custody of that little girl or any other child. I cannot imagine listening to your child being abused and doing nothing.

"The victim’s mother told State Police the child suffered the injuries from a hard fall during bath time. State Police say the mother “went on to provide implausible explanations for several other injuries to the victim’s body” including that bruising was caused by the family dog.

State Police say Cugini was identified and interviewed as a potential suspect. During his interview, State Police say Cugini initially denied giving care to the child, but went on to say he changed “a few diapers” and gave the victim a bath, at which point there was an accident in the bathroom.

Troopers say text messages later showed Cugini acknowledging his responsibility for the victim’s bruising.

According to State Police, the victim’s mother also disclosed that Cugini had locked himself in the bathroom with the child and that she could hear crying and loud noises coming from the room."

I would've intervened even though this baby isn't mine, I believe most people would. The child's mother didn't stop the rape, she didn't report it and she didn't take her child to a hospital, I look forward to seeing charges brought against her.
