Why, it's the most terrifying thing the Reich-Wing has ever seen. It's the thing that makes them sleep with the lights on in mom's basement and hang Wolvesvayne and garlic around the windows.

Just spoke to Derrick Van Orden. He tells me he was calling Matt Gaetz “tubby” — not Speaker Johnson — after Gaetz called DVO a “squish”

I saw MTV and was confused for a second, because I reflexively thought of music videos! But, it only took a second to note the context.

Also, I hope that there are a few decent republicans. I don't have faith, but I have a tiny shred of hope.

@MarkPocan
Clarification. Apparently the person @derrickvanorden
called “Tubby” was not Johnson but Matt Gaetz. In response, Matt Gaetz said Derrick was unhinged and not particularly intelligent.
Just another day in Derrick Van Orden land.

...to physical threats. What do you suppose would be the modern version of the Charles Sumner caning incident? Or perhaps some future assailant would still threaten to wield a cane, you know, just for old times' sake?!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caning_of_Charles_Sumner
https://rationalwiki.org/wiki/James_Buchanan#.22Presidency.22

Violence reached the floor of the United States Senate, where Congressman Preston Brooks of South Carolina savagely beat Abolitionist Senator Charles Sumner with his cane. Southern sympathizers sent Brooks new canes. Members began carrying knives and pistols into the Chamber. Meanwhile, the Nation's Chief Executive, James Buchanan, did nothing.

on edit: Whoops, I jumped the gun (no pun intended) and didn't see post #2--sorry about that.
