But admittedly, crypto is close enough to a Ponzi scheme that I will have nothing to do with it. So that piece may be exaggerated, but not necessarily "crazy." The rest? Uggh... The poor guy got brainwashed somewhere. Wonder what he watched and read and who he interacted with.

Still, a tragedy resulting in (with little doubt) a very painful and extended death.

Azzarello would have been only 6-14 during his presidency.

He looks a bit older and Clinton looks a bit older too.

He could have latched onto any number of ideas or seeds of ideas then twisted them to suit his perilous psychological state. This isn't really about politics as much as it is healthcare and our society's woeful job of addressing mental illness.

It is not a given that progressive disorientation, conspiracy theories, and media-driven/influenced paranoia could not have preceded a full mental breakdown. It is not a "given" he was chronically mentally ill. We may find out eventually. Regardless, even those with diagnosed (and medically treated) severe mental illness--including schizophrenia--can be pushed over the edge by paranoia-inciting exposures. In some cases, a "chicken v egg"--which came first phenomenon.

If you think that mental breakdown and even progressive mental illness cannot be induced--including by drug use/abuse, intense sleep deprivation and other phenomenon, read about the LSD experiments the CIA did on otherwise "bright and mentally healthy" employees in the 50s-60s. Here's a start:
https://www.npr.org/2019/09/09/758989641/the-cias-secret-quest-for-mind-control-torture-lsd-and-a-poisoner-in-chief

No, I am certainly not suggesting this man was a victim of the above, only that we may find that he had not had a history of diagnosed or even suspected mental illness--only progressive obsessive beliefs in his conspiracy theories--which may or may not have likewise reflected some mental disorder.

to maybe have had a mental breakdown? I guess he decided that if he set himself on fire it would bring attention to his research that obviously has taken over his life. I haven't heard if he died but setting yourself on fire is not the way I would choose to commit suicide....yikes.

Sadly many in our society seems to have been taken by conspiracy theories these days.

Trump campaign comments on man who set himself on fire

“Not knowing the motivations behind this sickening situation, it’s difficult to make any definitive remarks, other than to say we are thankful that to the best of our present knowledge, nobody other than the individual in question was hurt," national press secretary Karoline Leavitt said.

She also thanked "the great first responders of the City of New York for their actions.""Today is more proof that our nation is in deep trouble," Leavitt added before using Trump's campaign slogan "Make America Great Again."

Obviously not MAGA but still poisoned by online discourse.

Though I'm not sure anybody that specifically lists The Simpsons as one of the three pillars of his theory of social decay is ever going to be what most people consider "healthy".

Fri Apr 19, 2024, 05:12 PM
Apr 2024

only around 1.3 million left to be mined

https://bitbo.io/how-many-bitcoin/

It will take, at current mining rates, over 100 years (around the year 2140) to hit the 21 million mark (due to 'halving' and increasing complexity of the probelm-solving equations that are how it is mined)

But lets assume we are there already

Estimates suggest that around 6 million BTC, or 30% of Bitcoin's supply, have been irretrievably lost (destroyed or lost wallets, lost keys, etc etc)

So that leaves, if all are mined, roughly 15 million bitcoin.

At a price (near today's price) of 65,000 USD per bitcoin

that means the market cap (total value) is only around 1 trillion USD (975 billion USD to be exact)

that is less than the US government spends in 2 months

hardly some 'make or break' system-destroying pool of wealth

We ignore it at our peril.

I believe we need to build mental health and addiction treatment infrastructure, and stop using the police and justice and prisons to hide it.
