Democratic Candidates Have Now Overperformed in Five Special Elections
Democrat Marilyn Lands won a huge upset victory in Alabama last month, beating her Republican opponent by 25 points in Trump +1 district. In special elections for the Michigan Legislature Tuesday, candidates Peter Herzberg and Mai Xiong emerged victorious, protecting Democratic control of both houses of the legislature, and delivering a strong rebuke of GOP extremism.
Herzberg's Republican opponent Josh Powell said he opposed abortion "without exception" and would be open to repealing the states abortion rights law. Both Herzberg and Xiong won their races by over 20 points.
