DU is the best managed forum for intelligent convo as the news happens real time - on the innertubes. 24 years DU has helped, in keeping me sane. A Big Thank You folks!

(7,632 posts)Its a circus media
keeps us distracted.
Information of importance can be shared by any number of mechanisms, though TV is now a universal language itself.
We shouldnt blame TV for misinformation any more than we can blame sunlight for illuminating criminals who steal in the dead of night.
As James Carville once panned, its not the heat, its the stupidity.😂

(11,237 posts)If someone tells me about something they've heard in the news, I usually already know more than they do about it. If I have to look it up, it's usually a fake story from the RWNJ's.

(25,328 posts)I called the boss that I'd be a bit late (OK, later than usual).
I was running some tradeoff's on the home computer (when you had to build one from kit parts).
So, I got this dirty look when I made it in to the office. Showed him what I was doing.
WOW, you did about a week's worth of work here.
Of course, that was followed by "Your work is GREAT. When you actually do it."
We're still friends after over 40 years.
Via email.

(32,153 posts)Off line on a Dell 325 B/W laptop, before we deferred to the COPICS system we were running in manufacturing. Was the fastest and smartest manufacturing team I have ever been associated with. We were hot shit., world class in our thinking and execution.

(25,328 posts)Worst damn job is reading someone else's code and trying to figure it out.
May the admins live (and work) forever .... Oh, they can train some people to run and update it.
One job, a guy would refactor our code overnight, so that it was completely unrecognizable the next day.
Job security for him, I suppose.
I wrote a little program to create and format the documentation for the various program functions IN HYPERCARD.
It was so freakin easy to use that the boss stole it and wrote all the documentation himself.
It output the documentation in beautiful PostScript.
When the boss steals the program and does all the tedious entry, you've won.
The last year at that company, I think I coded in 6 different languages.
It was a trip.

(90,021 posts)It reminds me of a VERY large newsroom. Loads of correspondents reporting and opining from all over the world. Lots of credibility from almost every field of endeavor you can imagine. Whatever the subject, invariably itll bring out people wholl post with very credible background experience, not just tooting out their backside. And its 24-hours on watch.
