Enough of these myths about Entitlements and Gifts

As some of you know I have been out of work since August due to an injury. My husband lost his job in October he has found odd jobs here and there We have 4 kids at home our rent is 450.00 a month. We were able to get Food Stamps but my husband has to work them off, thus limiting his ability to do odd jobs to cover our rent and utilities. He filed for unemployment and was denied because he was terminated and not laid off. I am 43 he is 51 we have never been as far down as we are now. We have worked and paid our taxes all of our adult lives. I have a computer yes but It is a couple of years old I bought it with money I worked for before any of this happened. We went to apply for housing assistance but the waiting list is 3yrs. So I wish someone would tell me where all these gifts are? I'm not seeing them they don't exist it's a bunch of lies. People are losing hope I am anyway. All I get are cold hearted social workers who talk down to me like they are better than me. I'm not gaming the system but am treated like I am.

Your situation sounds horrible.

I hope that you are getting disability. Do you think you would qualify for it?

Also, contact www.wishadoo.org. It's run by OneGrassRoot, a DU member. Maybe they can help with something.

Good luck!

Keep calling them. Ask them if there is additional information they need, and send it to them. Then check to make sure that it has been received. If not, send it again.

If you stay on top of them, it might speed things up somewhat. This is what my friend has been doing and it has been fairly effective.

Please use wishadoo. DU takes care of it's own and there are a lot of good people here.
Wouldn't be unreasonable to ask for say 6 months of rent to help get you on your feet. You have so many other bills, you have four kids...please let us help.

And I am so disgusted every time I hear the other side blaming poor people, victims of this economy and the 1%ers, for what the greedy sociopaths did.

Welfare cost 80 Billion per year. Bush was asking Congress for war 'emergency' spending of 80 Billion, a couple times a year. And Congress passed it every time and didn't think twice about it.

Your story is very familiar to a lot of people. They are in the very position you are in now or they have been. I know I have. First don't give up. And its not you, its the system thats rigged to make you give up and say fuck it. but I go out there and work so that you and your family can utilize interim help when needed. No you go out there and recoup some of my Government dollars. I am more than willing for you and others like you to have it. I get pissed off with oil subsides. I don't want to give them SHIT. You and your family are more than welcome. To nyquil the cold-hearted social worker, do as my mom says, use honey it works better than vinegar. Start conversation or meeting by complementing the social worker on something they are wearing, hair, glasses, or their timely response. Ask them how they are doing. Let them know they have an extremely hard job and you are thankful that they could take the time out to see you. No you do not need to kiss their butts. But the Social Workers of today are dealing with an abundance of clients with not enough PUBLIC Employees to serve the increased rolls. They are over worked and you know they are underpaid. Dealing with the public isn't as easy as it looks especially when you have an economic downturn in the economy as we have. Here in Michigan if you make a mistake during the application process you must start over.

There will always be hateful people in this world. But don't you give up and become one of them. There are some of us who are glad to be of contribution to your family.
