When will the powers that be at NBC realize it’s time to get rid of Melber and give the show to Phang?

But I could do without all the pop music and rap refences. I don't watch news for that sort of thing and rap lyrics sound really weird coming out of his mouth.

When Phang first started to appear on MSNBC, she rubbed me the wrong way. She talked too fast and often cut people off. She has toned it down quite a bit, but I haven't gotten past my few first impressions yet. I'm sure I will eventually. I prefer hosts who at least make the appearance of listening to other people instead of just thinking what they are going to say next.

Now that I think about it, Ari isn't a terribly good listener either. He has an awful resting face with his eyes constantly shifting about. It is really distracting and unprofessional.

13. Good points but this brings to mind Howard Dean's comments after he guest hosted.

He said it was one of the hardest things he had ever done. You have to avoid stumbling over words, saying “uh” and “you know”, etc., while listening to your guests and to the producer speaking in your ear—and looking good in your heavy makeup and hairspray. And some nights breaking news interrupts, disrupting all their preparations. People like Nicolle Wallace make it seem so easy.

That dawns on me frequently, especially when I'm watching Ari Melber. It does look like a very stressful job and I can imagine a producer speaking in their ear. Like you said, Nicole Wallace makes it look so easy. Same with Chris Hayes and Brian Williams (I really miss Brian Williams). Plus they look like they are giving their guests their undivided attention and really listening, even though I know someone could be talking in their ear.

Ari seems to be good at doing a monologue, but he has a hard time with guests and transitions, constantly aware of the clock and his producer. I would have thought that by now, he would be better at this.

Oh well, I know I couldn't do it. Kudos to those who master it.

I am in awe of them being able to do that and a handful of them look so laid back. I think Brian Williams did it the best. His body language, facial expressions, and voice all were so relaxed, plus he managed to effortlessly sneak some dry witticisms in there now and then. "Senator-John-no-relation-Kennedy" or "Translated from the original Russian for our audience". Never missed a beat.

I sat through The Greatest Generation talks from Tom Brokaw for years . . . one big cultural reference.

But from where I sit - Boomers are the Greatest Generation - because they moved the political dial for me. You see that recognition from my peers (age) when he has them on, and when he references them.

Dirt off my Shoulder is almost a cultural anthem for those of us who came up through leadership in private enterprise during the 2000's and 2010's. It might not be relatable to GenZ, or white Americans in my age group, or my Mom's generation (Boomer). . . but I watch the show consistently, and when I had a 55 mile commute to/from Secaucus NJ and got out of work at 6 PM -Ari kept me company.

I also really appreciate that he's able to get right wing nut jobs that nobody else outside of the Right Wing news media can get. He also holds them to account, admits when he's wrong, and opens things up for discussion.

And a small chuckle - I think Navarro's whining on the Ari Melber show is what did him in criminally. Like - he should have known better, but Ari just let him talk!
