The Stupidity Of MAGA Americans

Part of what is distressing about Donald Trump is not just that he is a stupid and ignorant sociopath. It is that there are millions of Americans that are stupid enough, gullible enough, and ignorant enough to support a demagogue like Trump.

There is a substantial portion of the American population that does not understand or care about democracy and justice in this country. There is just a large number of people who are basically ignorant of what it means to be a good American citizen. I am not entirely sure how many MAGA there are. Maybe a substantial hard core of 10 or 20 %? Maybe more?

MAGA and Trump are a political disease. If Trump is convicted, if Trump is jailed, if Trump loses the election to Joe Biden, the head will be cut off of the snake. But there is a danger that other MAGA leaders would step in and take Trump's place. People like Kari Lake in Arizona, for example.

While I think that Trump's conviction or his defeat in the Presidential election would be a great step forward, it would not completely solve the problem. Trump is like a cancerous tumor that must be removed from the body of American politics. But once the tumor is removed, we must examine what remains to ensure that the cancer has not spread elsewhere in our country. We must clear MAGA fascism entirely out of our system. The conviction and defeat of Trump would be a great step forward for that though.

true for, say, annual incomes, I believe the IQ numbers use a standardization formula where the mean and the median are the same.

"In this method, psychometricians utilize a process known as standardization to make it possible to compare and interpret the meaning of IQ scores. This process is accomplished by administering the test to a representative sample and using these scores to establish standards, usually referred to as norms, by which all individual scores can be compared.

Because the median score is 100, experts can quickly assess individual test scores against the median to determine where these scores fall on the normal distribution. This means 50% of the scores fall above and below the median. In the case of IQ scores, both the mean and median score is 100. Classification systems can vary from one publisher to the next although many do tend to follow a fairly similar rating system."

4. I'm convinced racism and misogyny are the reason a large part of why MAGAs are MAGAs.

Of course you need to be ignorant to be racist and misogynistic.

I think the future Biden super-majority will quickly crush and eradicate maga and worse 2026 mid-terms. I’m not grave-dancing, there’s tons of work to do, but I believe the maga movement is very vulnerable despite our broken media and campaign finance issues.

That because so many of the GOP leadership (Congress, Governors and Religious leaders) jumped on the bandwagon of Trump (including election denial, …) that it confused some of the simple minded. When the leaders of the Country sing the same song - what are they to believe? It also did not help that the Fourth-Estate didn’t strongly condemn Trump and that GOP leadership.

So, yes MAGA people are a problem - but the leaders of this Country that should know better - that parroted the lies, they have contributed to the misinformation, divisiveness and embracing of misinformation.

But this issue did not start with Trump, nor will it end with him.

But I agree that putting that orange gibbon in a cell would be a glorious start to getting this nation on a better path. Making sure that people like Stephen Miller and Mark Meadows know they are in the crosshairs would also be a good start. (There may not be anything to officially charge those two with, but they won't know that for sure.)

Oh, if we decide to turn to crime, they're marks, but beyond that, there's nothing.

However, keep your eye on TFG during this trial. Right now, he's more afraid of the judge than he is of appearing weak to his adoring fans. Changing his behavior at this point might be a bit late, some of the damage has been done. He's not who they thought he is.

That might have been a tactical blunder on his part. He'd have been more in the news out of sight, a jailed martyr because the judge was out to get him. Too late now.

They are certainly gullible and ignorant. But those are not synonymous with stupid. There are folks with higher ed degrees who have fallen for the con. They have had their emotions played like a fiddle. Their critical reasoning has been undermined in many cases by a diet of disinformation, by being in echo chambers, and by deliberate enflaming feelings of tribalism now for more than a single generation in many cases.

Fox News began in the mid-1990s but conservative talk radio across more than 1200 radio stations predated that by nearly a decade.

By demeaning those who are fully under the MAGA spell, we disrespect those who are adjacent to them. Maybe they believe some of it but not all, maybe they don't. But they do not like us putting down their family or friends. It makes it all too easy for the right wing to assure them that those of us on the Left despise them and be believed. Unhelpful. Those who are adjacent to MAGA are quite possibly persuadable. All votes we can peel away help us re-elect not just Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, but hopefully the Congress they need to accomplish safeguarding abortion rights into our laws and accomplishing our agenda.

But I get the anger and frustration that fuels our reaction. I have my moments, but in private.

BTW, stupid is not the only word I'd wish into oblivion. "Racist" is high on that list too.
