I read yesterday that the Administration wasn't going to call LAPD unless it was an absolute last resort and things were already out of control. If campus police were overwhelmed, it would take time for LAPD riot police to be mobilized.

IMO, it was NOT clear that the Pro Isreal protesters were stirring up the shit!

Pro Palistinine protesters did seem to stay behind the barricades they set up. Large patch of land in between them and the Pro Isreal protesters.

The fighting and firework shooting (at the encampment) was coming from a smaller groug running into the middle. They started from the Pro Isreal side, which is logical place if they were disruptive forces.

So, from what I saw on Local LA news, I could NOT claim they were Pro Isreal protesters. Way too many people in the middle wearing black shirts and khaki paints.

I am going to need to take a break from DU for a while. Life-long Democrat, Jew, long-time New Yorker, anti war protestor, women's rights demonstrator, peace activist for 50+ years . . . what I am seeing and reading here and in some media has broken my spirit and my hope for the values I embrace. UCLA was one nightmare. NY is another. Seeing excessively armed, militaristic police violently arresting unarmed students and faculty is shameful and inhumane.
