Many people thought her affair with Corey Lewandowski was it, but there was hardly a reaction. Right wingers are so accustomed to ignoring behavior they say they condemn that her unrighteous behavior was not just excused, but treated as if it never happened. But the puppy shooting thing might be, finally, too much. It looks like she is now too unlikeable to be considered as a VP candidate. As a dog lover myself, I'm not completely surprised, but I'm also a fan of marital fidelity, so I'm a little disappointed that the tawdry affair didn't do the trick, and we had to find out Noem is a puppy killer before we decided she went too far.

On one hand, the best way to make a film character clearly evil is to have them kill a pet. They can kill a hundred people and still be a good guy, but don’t kill a dog. We seem to instinctively know that murdering an innocent animal is wrong.

On the other hand, as you said, they seem to make excuses for everything done by their leaders, so maybe with time they’ll rationalize this too.

But dogs aren't part of that human-dominance hierarchy, so they can love dogs, who love them back and don't judge them.

I don't think she killed her dog over soemthing like this, but I think she thought that saying she killed her dog would make her sound tough and more likebale with the extremists she's courting.
