Israel's prime minister does not know where to go

Not so long ago, Binyamin Netanyahu was eager to compare himself to Vladimir Putin. In an election campaign in 2019, his party, Likud, proudly paraded the Israeli prime minister in posters alongside Russia’s president and other strongmen. Now Mr Netanyahu is terrified he may join another club alongside Mr Putin: world leaders against whom the International Criminal Court (icc) in The Hague has issued arrest warrants for war crimes.

So worried was Israel’s leader that on April 30th he posted a video online to say that issuing such warrants against senior Israelis would be an “outrage of historic proportions” that would “pour jet fuel on the fires of antisemitism”.

The icc has not confirmed that its prosecutor, Karim Khan, is preparing such warrants. But Israeli diplomats say they have had indications that the prime minister, Yoav Gallant, the defence minister, and senior generals in the Israel Defence Forces (idf) are in his sights. They say the war crimes under investigation relate mainly to Israel’s obstructing food supplies to civilians in Gaza during the war with Hamas, the Islamist group responsible for October 7th. “We don’t know for certain if arrest warrants are imminent,” says one Israeli official. “What is certain is that Netanyahu thinks they are—and he’s in a panic.”

The prime minister has apparently been consumed for several weeks by the icc’s potential threat. In that period he has reversed Israeli policies on supplying aid to Gaza, delayed a planned attack on the southern city of Rafah and become more amenable to a truce with Hamas. Some in the security establishment think Israel should attack Rafah sooner to put more pressure on Hamas; others counsel caution until a deal has been reached to secure the release of the hostages. The prime minister looks as if he has less and less control over events in and relating to Gaza. Instead he is being guided by the threats and urgings of both his allies and his enemies.

Bibi is an asshole who using the assault in Gaza to stay in power. There have been major protests in Israel of Bibi's policies. Many American Jews and Israelis have been and will continue to attack Bibi.

Without Biden, Bibi would be really violating human rights

Bibi needs to go and attacking Bibi is not anti-Semitic

despite months of warnings that a big attack was coming. There's still no excuse for the hours-long response by the IDF to the attack once it came.

The nation needs to preempt the international court and kick him to the curb, then try his corrupt, warmongering ass.

They certainly aren't starving, and they certainly haven't shown much concern for the Palestinians. I had assumed most could differentiate between the two.

13. Why Trump's hardline position on U.S. policy in Gaza matters

Donald Trump has a message for voters who disapprove of President Joe Biden’s Israel/Gaza policy from the left: The Republican intends to be vastly worse.

https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/trumps-hardline-position-us-policy-gaza-matters-rcna150391

In theory, Donald Trump might recognize the electoral opportunity and try to appeal to those who disapprove on the incumbent president’s Israel/Gaza policy from the left. In practice, the former president has an unsubtle message for Biden’s critics: If given the chance, the Republican intends to be vastly worse.

The Biden White House, for example, acknowledged this week that it is, as the Associated Press reported, “weighing measures to help Palestinians living in the United States who want to bring family from the war-torn region.”

Soon after, as Reuters reported, the presumptive GOP nominee shared his thoughts on the subject at a campaign rally.

Your towns and villages will now be accepting people from Gaza and various other places,” Trump said, eliciting boos from the crowd. “Under no circumstances shall we bring thousands of refugees.” Last week, Trump described the pro-Palestinian protests as driven by “tremendous hate” while asserting that the violence at a 2017 white nationalist rally with some Trump supporters in Charlottesville, Virginia, when he was president was small by comparison.

Note, at one of his campaign events yesterday, Trump appeared to goad his followers in Wisconsin into booing Palestinian refugees.

At the same event, the former president also vowed to restore and expand the Muslim ban he imposed during his first term......

The former president also endorsed ongoing Israeli military operations, saying, “We have to let Israel complete their war on terror. It’s a horrible thing, but they have to do it.” Trump added that Israel must “clean out the cancer.”

Let’s also not forget a New York Times report from March that said top members of Trump’s team want to expel Palestinians from Gaza.

It’s as if the Republican is going out of his way to alienate voters who, given their frustrations with Biden’s policy, might be inclined to give Trump a second look.

TFG will bring back the Muslim ban, give Bibi free reign to bomb and destroy Gaza and expel Palestinians from Gaza so that Jared can build his resorts.

If TFG is re-elected, Bibi Netanyahu will be free to destroy Gaza and finish the job he started. Bibi Netanyahu has not been able to destroy Gaza in the way he wants due to President Biden.

He knows the clock is ticking and thought he would go down so marvelously that he would be included in the Historical, Wisdom or Minor Prophets books. Now, he may very well be, but not in the story he wants. He will be labeled as a classic example of failure. He's doing everything he can to salvage what he screwed up. Don't forget, at Rabin's funeral, he was pissed off that he would be remembered as a martyr. Now he's going to go down as a number of the Old Testament failed Kings.

All they saw was what they claimed was hatred of Israel and a lack of understanding of what they have been through. It was all about what had been done to them, completely ignoring what their government has done to innocent Palestinians. They lost 1136 people. Palestinians have lost 35,000 and Israel is still killing them every day, with a majority of them being women and children who had absolutely nothing to do with the October 7 attack.

The refusal to acknowledge that most of the protests are about their government’s actions against Palestinians is just a huge denial of reality. Yes, some protesters hve called for an end to Israel, which I think just distracts from the message that what the Israeli government is doing is unacceptable, but most protesters are against the war.

How can any people accept that it’s okay for their army to destroy food crops to deliberately cause famine and prevent aid to force people, including children and babies, to starve to death!
