The investigation is closed and the allegations were not sustained, a spokeswoman for the CPD said in a statement, declining to provide any documents from the internal probe.
The brief statement stood in stark contrast to Chicago Police Supt. Larry Snellings zero-tolerance vow to the City Council in October, after WBEZ and the Chicago Sun-Times revealed the misconduct records of cops with ties to the Oath Keepers.
In a joint investigation, Extremism in the Ranks, WBEZ, the Sun-Times and the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project found 27 current and former Chicago police officers whose names appeared in leaked Oath Keepers membership records. Nine remained on active duty, some with troubling disciplinary histories, according to public records.

(1,732 posts)Merely being a member of a criminal group is not a crime. I'm far more worried about covering up for cops who commit crimes, violate civil rights, etc.

(1,732 posts)The contract clause would have to name the group. I suspect it would include the Klan, communist party, any group advocating violence or criminal activity, etc. Merely mentioning "extremist groups" is too vague.

(27,495 posts)Its an anti government extremest group whose main tenet is police officers not following government orders.
The communist party? Are they still trying to overthrow the government?
