just a fine point… it was a prominent GOP Senator who crafted a fairly hard right leaning bipartisan-ish bill that the GOP controlled house refused to bring to the floor for a vote. Dems had nothing to do with an outside influencer compelling the GOP to sabotage their own legislation.

That's half the problem. Once they did that some solutions would be simple.

If they have agreed on how many immigrants we should let in there is no reason many of them wouldn't be asylum seekers. They would have no excuse not to improve and streamline the asylum process then. Clear up that clusterfuck and then deal with how we stop people sneaking in.

Make it clear the border is not open and if you come here, you won't get in without a good reason. The incessant harping about open borders is not helpful. Hopeful immigrants hear that and believe it and we get more people trying.

The amygdalae are the parts of the brain that regulate responses to fight/flight, and larger size correlates to heightened responses.
It’s been known for far longer that fear and anger are easily manipulated. Faux Nuz, OANN, SpewsMax constantly beat the fear/anger drums and the GOPQ have been masters at manipulating these emotions for decades, even before this link was established.

Good response, we shouldn't fall into the trap of debating issues on their terms. Whenever some RWer starts complaining that immigrants are coming to America, I just respond "yeah, that's a good thing." Completely throws them off their game.

I respond the same way when they complain about raising taxes on the wealthy, or banning fossil fuels, or making healthcare free for everyone, or allowing women to make their own reproductive choices, or teaching school kids about slavery, or any of their other bullshit RW talking point wedge issues.
