(923 posts)It means that they removed every single Jew in Gaza, at times by force, and even dug up the graves of long-dead Israelis, to hand the land over to the Arabs. No other nation on Earth has gone to such lengths as Israel did, to facilitate something akin to a peace offering.
Since then, Gaza has received more aid per capita than any nation in history, from the UN, U.S., Egypt, and Qatar (not to mention all the funds pumped into Hamas and Hezbollah by Iran). Where has this money gone? To build energy and water plants, investment in agriculture, infrastructure, schools, and hospitals?
Of course not. The money has been confiscated by Hamas, who narrowly won the election in 2006, and proceeded to murder all their political opponents in the purge of 2007, and who have been in power ever since without any further elections.
It has been used on rockets, which they have deployed in attacking Israel on an almost yearly basis, and to build vast, sophisticated tunnel systems which only serve one purpose: to enable their terrorist attacks on Israel, the Jewish state.

(44,616 posts)some Thatcher, Kissinger, the hard RW nationalist/racist Sweden Democrats, Thomas Sowell and and newer plonkers like Kemi Badenoch (Tory), etc etc. He is a constant immigrant basher. He is a pusher of the RW meme that anti-racism is the real racism. A real self-hating quisling for the RW.

Can we be honest?
Sweden, the country that was the ideal for other nations to aspire to, the model for what an almost perfect society could look like, today has the highest number of shooting deaths in peacetime Europe. We have the highest rate of rape in the entire continent, despite desperate attempts to paint it as if it is an esoteric form of statistical manipulation and Kafkaesque distortion of language about definitions. Violent crime, theft, gun violence, robbery, sexual crime - name the crime and Sweden - SWEDEN! - is now, if not world-leading, then definitely on the medal podium in the Western world.
And the tragic thing is that everyone knows what the problem is.
It's spelled mass immigration, and it's individuals who look like me who are holding our country hostage.
Can we be honest about this? Can we at least admit that up is up, and down is down?
No, it turns out. We can't. Or at least not without trying desperately to find an explanation as to why it is the Swedes' fault that immigrants commit so many crimes.
After the 2022 election, I had dinner with a friend from Stockholm who is one of the country's leading personalities in tech and startup circles. He sheepishly lamented, almost as if apologizing, that things had gone so well for the Sweden Democrats (SD), assuming I would agree. To his shock, he heard how I had not only voted for (SD), but how many other immigrants from my generation had done the same.

The source wars got played out once Al Jazeera became the paper of record for some people. Source policing has increasingly become a propaganda strategy, and I think most people have tired of it.
Either an argument is good or it is not. Engage or don't engage accordingly.

(9,238 posts)Which I see very little pushback against alongside the promotion of those sources.
So, I mean, what's the argument about then? It's clear, on this issue, there are a lot of strange relationships and alliances that come down on different arguments.
Everyone is standing on wheels for legs with this.
But at least I understand and am unwilling to pretend that I'm not in the rink.

Fuck him and the RW horse he rode in on.
Anyone who supports the neo-nazi infused Sweden Democrats, for instance, is an instant political enemy of mine.
It is staggeringly hypocritical for him to try and put himself out there as some sort of anti 'anti-semitism' warrior whilst supporting a major political party here in Sweden that is rife with 'gas the Jews' types.
Mind-boggling.

(44,616 posts)This is a charade that became the norm in our political discourse with Tony Blair and Bill Clinton, and has since been adopted by politicians across all parties (the excellent American sitcom Parks and Recreation portrayed this persona perfectly in the character of Congressman Murray). Even though lately, the public has shown that they favour those who deviate from such pretence - think Trump vs Hillary (the embodiment of such non-persona) or Boris vs Theresa May the virus persists with unyielding obstinacy.

It is in this pile of mud that Kemi Badenoch stands out like a gemstone. Suddenly, we have a politician who echoes Thomas Sowells great insight that there are no solutions, only compromises. Who openly acknowledges that we must brace ourselves for a period of hardship as a result of her colleagues short-sightism, instead of promising the world and delivering nothing. Who exposes ridiculous, virtue-signalling initiatives like Net zero by 2050, by pointing out that none of those making such pledges will be in power in 28 years time, and do not therefore need to bear the consequences of their empty vows.
snip
She does not apologise for her convictions, such as Britain not being a systemic racist country, or that children should not be indoctrinated with divisive nonsense like Critical Race Theory, even though she is bombarded with abuse on social media for it. Unlike the other candidates on the ballot, Kemi Badenoch does not seem to think that avoiding an avalanche of angry tweets is worth compromising her convictions for.
snip
Many of my fellow Kemists say she is the best hope against a Labour resurgence, that she is the Lefts nightmare. Personally, I could not care less and do not think that should be why anyone vote for Ms. Badenoch. Rather, it is because she represents the only feasible alternative to the business-as-usual options we have on both sides of the aisles. In Badenoch, we suddenly have the opportunity for actual change, not just in leadership but in politics. Like Thatcher before her, Badenoch does not obsess about being liked, as if being Prime Minister is a popularity contest, but as someone who is willing to pay the price of being honest.

This is who he revels in (the Tory RWer of colour Kemi Badenoch):

(116,686 posts)which makes me wonder where he's really coming from. Good for him for renouncing anti-Semitism, but it looks like that instead of. becoming a more open-minded person, he's just found another group to hate. SD, which he supports, is very right-wing, Sweden's version of MAGA Republicans, especially with respect to immigration, except that they apparently support Ukraine vs. Russia and don't hate LGBTQ people quite as much.
