Thanks for posting this as I was looking thru the posts for an acknowledgment of what happened 54 years ago. I remember being horrified that a governor would order to shoot unarmed peaceful protesters.

I recall walking down Market street in San Francisco at one of the peace marches holding his WWII Marine Corps hand.

I have never heard of it, and I was appalled (the area I grew up in was very Republican but I wasnt very political. )
