“the only path to a subversion of the Republican system of the Country is, by flattering the prejudices of the people, and exciting their jealousies and apprehensions, to throw affairs into confusion, and bring on civil commotion.” Alexander Hamilton

3. Another parallel to Hitler that many people don't know...

is that the NAZI Party spent the last years of the 20's and the first few years of the 30's basically stopping the government from doing anything through parliamentary shenanigans and basically gumming up the works. That accomplished two goals, at least. For one, it got the population fed up with democracy, which in Germany had barely started a few years before after WWI. Meanwhile, the only things that did get done were by executive decree (think their version of Executive Orders) which reinforced the popular notion that they needed a "strong man" to get things done. They were primed to turn things over to Hitler.

Republicans have been doing that for years now, preventing things from getting done. Dems have overcome that in many cases through strong leadership and basic diplomacy, but there is a large section of the population who thinks we'd be better off with a dictator. We need to out-vote them this November at all levels and all branches of government.
