(2,317 posts)But not any reasonable person who actually understands the meaning of the term genocide. There is no genocide in Gaza, and those who spread that slur are implicitly (and in some cases explicitly) supporting Hamas. Although this article is a few months old, nothing has changed on this issue:

(3,932 posts)BOGOTA, Colombia -- Colombian President Gustavo Petro on Wednesday announced his government will break diplomatic relations with Israel effective Thursday in the latest escalation of tensions between the countries over the Israel-Hamas war.
Petro again described Israels siege of Gaza as genocide. He previously suspended purchases of weapons from Israel and compared that countrys actions in Gaza to those of Nazi Germany.

Now, key Latin American countries are spurning Israel for its war conduct while also condemning Hamas for its attack. In early January, Brazil and Colombia endorsed South Africas genocide claim against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), as well as Pretorias petition for provisional measures to stop the war and ease Gazas humanitarian crisis. On Jan. 18, Chile and Mexico presented a referral to the International Criminal Court to reinforce its investigation into possible war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza, the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and Israel. These actions have put Latin America at sharp odds with the United States and some European nations.

(2,317 posts)The only countries supporting this nonsense genocide story, promoted by Hamas supporters, are Hamas friends. The story I posted made clear that some South American countries were also supporting this farce. Youre just repeating that point.

(9,059 posts)I also don't believe Israel is engaging in genocide. What they're doing is pushing the Palestinians into a smaller piece of Gaza; a land grab. It's the same thing they've been doing on the West Bank for decades.
It's ironic, that the phrase, "from the river to the sea" is always associated with the Arabs driving the Jews out of Palestine, but the opposite has become equally true.
Neither viewpoint is reasonable, or could ever happen.
This forever war has to stop, and there is no military solution that can make that happen.
The leadership of both Hamas and Israel need to be replaced with people who are less self-serving, more loving and compassionate towards their people, and more open to fixing what's broke there.

(7,793 posts)He does not support Netanyahu unequivocally. If he is delaying armaments to Israel, it MAY be because he has concerns regarding Netanyahu. There may be some other explanation.

(17,984 posts)in nature or that don't address the current hostage/refugee situation. They have said for some time, way before the campus protests, that the US will not support further aggressive fronts by Israel. But the US will always defend Israel. This is a consistent policy position, but some are not acknowledging that.

(10,988 posts)Israel plans to flatten Rafah but has checkpoints so men & boys can leave Rafah according to Middle East Eye. Sounds like more genocide to me.

(6,325 posts)I am glad to see we are questioning unequivocal support for the govt which does not always serve the interests of fairness or peace or the will of it's citizens. We should have attached strings long ago. Their historical actions in Gaza and the west bank are insidious.

(1,026 posts)We dont need to play a part in this any longer. Let them sort it out.
Both peoples need to get rid of all their leaders and make peace possible. Its the leaders who gotta go and we dont need to support any of them.
I wish somehow Biden could say, No more money until Netanyahu steps down!
And I wish there was an equivalent for Hamas but they dont care about their people.
