That is simply an observable fact, regardless of whether it is or is not a fair or accurate characterization of Israel. And if wide scale full famine and/or another wave of massive civilian casualties engulf Gaza in the wake of renewed and accelerated Israeli military operations there, the previously unthinkable will likely occur. Perceived genocide in Gaza will supplant the Holocaust as the new contemporary benchmark for the evil that can be inflicted on a people by a malevolent State. Again, I say this without actual comment on the merit or lack of same of that impression taking hold.
The Holocaust happened over 80 years ago. The mass deaths in Gaza are happening now. The past is alive today, shaping the present, and helping to determine the future. But most people don't viscerally respond to the past the way that they react to the present. The Holocaust is not safely in the past. Antisemitism is very much alive today. Israel is a small nation in a large world. Jews make up a tiny fraction of the world's population. Israel, as brave and formidable as its citizens may be, can not stand alone for long, if it should ever come to that.
For decades, for most here in America, Israel occupied the high moral ground, as most Americans took to heart the fervent Jewish vow, "Never again!" But the perception that Israel holds the high moral ground is eroding at an astonishing rate. A generational shift in attitudes is happening. That does not bode well for Israel's future security.

(38,079 posts)Gaza / Israel agreement was a Unilateral removal of all Jewish human beings from the Gaza borders. Israel dug up graves. That's how far they went to comply with the Gaza Leadership's demands.
It's not fair to ask them to do it again.

But many before me have observed that Hamas may well have been willing to sacrifice the lives of 100,000 Palestinians in order to trigger a brutal enough response from Israel to make it a pariah State.
