Learning to be a celebrity? Makes no sense at all.

(34,189 posts)I've always been repulsed by TFG and never understood how anyone could watch him. Plus, the entire premise of the show goes against everything I believe in.
So there are at least two of us who never watched it.

When ratings fell, they shifted to CELEBRITY APPRENTICE where B/C list celebrities competed for money for a designated charity.

(34,914 posts)I have ZERO interest in game shows, which is what that was, not "reality" TV. Of which I also have very little interest, outside of the old "Storm Chasers" series the Weather Channel aired years ago.

I am so weary of this ugly (inside and out) human sucking up resources that could be put to much better use. The thought of him being president again causes me great angst

(43,165 posts)I wouldn't know since I have no standard with which to judge it.
I do watch shows like Dateline and 48 Hours, so I think of it more like "crime time all the time."

(72,187 posts)Never watched a single second of the shows. Couldn't get away from the laughable and insufferable promos. But I never tuned in.
Trashy TV for trashy people.
If that sounds harsh, it's just because I can't imagine non-trashy people watching it, even ironically.

(43,457 posts)Watched some Biggest Loser and Bridezillas with my daughters back in the day, but they are bogus and fake drama. And never cared for the fake show of a fake celebrity "businessman".

(43,850 posts)I watched some of it. It was initially The Apprentice with regular people, which is where Omarosa came in. Later celebs, more or less. They formed teams, had competitions to raise money for charity, and at the end Spanky heard them at a faux board meeting and fired someone on the losing team. As always there was drama. It was pedestrian except for seeing. celebs be crazy.

(13,282 posts)thought it was true that Trump did the hiring and firing.
Makes me mad what this show made Trump out to be more than he was.
To this day I think that show is why people (his people) think he's such a strong boss figure.

(56,198 posts)It was a season-long competition. Basically each week the two teams would have to compete usually by selling something. Imagine a lemonade stand or a t-shirt shop.
The teams would quickly design their product and their marketing pitch then go out and sell sell sell!
The losing team would then be brought into the "boardroom" when Donnie would berate them for losing, instigate arguments, and eventually "fire" the contestant he pinned the blame on.
In short, imagine the worst boss possible, that's Donnie.
Anyway, the last contestant left at the end of the season won.
Initially, they "won" a job working for this worst boss ever, with a salary of $250k. I don't know if they were guaranteed anything. For all I know he fired them after the first week.
Later they switched from ordinary suckups competing for a job to minor celebrities competing for their favorite charity.
Oh, I should note, the winners usually were the ones who simply called a rich buddy who would come and by $25k would have lemonade or whatever. Typical Donnie scam and turned the supposed competition into a who knows the biggest sucker game. Having the best lemonade or the best marketing pitch often didn't matter, just whose friend threw away more money.
lindysalsagal
(22,915 posts)because they're not really competitions or looking for audience input. How real they are is anyone's guess. But they're also not based on a slimy failed casino gangster. OK: Traitors is a competition, but not with a fake celebrity calling the shots. Alan Cumming is fun but he makes no decisions of import.

(196,495 posts)Neither one lasted very long.
We did watch the first few seasons of the regular one. It featured pretty well credentialed young people basically sucking up to him. Ive read that producers often had to scramble to create content after his boardroom decisions that NO ONE saw coming. Apparently one small act of a perceived criticism or lack of fealty could weeks later have him kick them out
The premise of the show was a tournament and the winner would become part of his organization. Usually there weee two teams and they had a task like creating a product or marketing something (including selling it on the street) or even making sure Tony Bennett was happy with his green room at a Trump property. Generally the lead of the losing team got FIRED!
An older gentleman and a professional looking lady sat with him at the big table advising him on that weeks decision. Dont remember their names but Ive not seen a mention of either in anything since including his trials.
Ivanka started showing up in season 2. Bosss daughter. Got it. Then one week he introduced a new advisor- Don Jr. my wife and I cracked just at the look of him. We never watched again.

(60,968 posts)I preferred drama written by talented writers. To me, "reality" shows based on the best that could be cobbled together from what was filmed - likely including "reality dos" to help the story were neither reality or good fiction.
If I wanted reality, there were excellent documentaries. If I wanted fiction, there were still good well written shows. I hated that reality shows, that were cheap to produce, likely lowered the number of fun, interesting shows.

(34,295 posts)Additionally, the celebrities as contestants were not vying for a job, but instead each had selected a charity for which they were playing.
Kinda like Dancing With The Stars.
I never watched Celebrity Apprentice, but I knew celebrities were the contestants.
